ROM Web Sites

Hey, I was just wondering if AdSense is allowed to be placed onto ROM web sites. Basically a web site that provides ROMs for download for free, I am not sure if they are allowed.

As they are illegal to play unless you have a proper version of the game.

    Thanks,
    BlueEew.

I'd also like to find out about this. But IMO I don't think roms are illegal... as long as you tell people that they can only play the roms for 24 hours (unless they own the original game) and then delete it. I guess this would be a grey area for Google to make a decision...
BTW, does anyone know a good alternative for rom site in regards to monetizing? Google only pays a few cents per click for this topic!

Downloading ROMs is 100% illegal. It is a myth that if you delete the ROM within 24 hours it is legal. Downloading ROMs is always illegal. Even if you own the game, it is illegal to download the ROM for it. The only way to have a legal backup of a game is if you dump it yourself.

Roms are illegal, however, companies like Nintendo or Sega will not come after you for distrusting them unless the Roms are for systems like N64 or newer models.

I myself had a rom website for 5 years running with Adsense and never had a problem. Most of the rom websites are for historical purposes (most games are < 1970-1980).

    Peace,
