rollover vs. text

I think I've made an error, and I'm sorry to ask, but I've learned so much from this forum's regulars and perhaps a web guru here could advise me.

On the later two of my lady, Marjorie's, seven sites I tried to have rollover links, instead of straight text.

    http://www.whatsnewemu.com
    http://www.laughingmattersink.com

All works just fine for a visitor's navigation within the site. BUT I'm learning more about search engines' spider behaviour, and I'm concerned that the Google crawler, for example, would not be able to follow these links since they are not text.

Both sites will have their second anniversary this Spring. Traffic goes up each month. But, plug in the keyword string, "humor animals pets news", and Google doesn't know us, although Yahoo has us at 1st and 2nd.

So, do I have to change all these pages (yikes!), take out the art and put in straight ordinary text links?

    Best to you . . . john

I play it safe with text footer links. Main menu along side, site map, and text footers.

Just add a footer with a keyword rich text link to each of your major pages, and also a link to your sitemap made with with non JS links.

    . . . for what seems a consensus.

If I understand, I need to add to the bottom of every page a horizontally formatted set of text links which repeat the function of the rollovers just under the masthead.

I don't picture how they can be made "keyword rich".

And I pictured a "site map" as a good thing, but d***d if I know why.

Would any of you who have taught fools like me have an example or two that you share for a good site map?

The site map made by tool suggested above will include the title and description of each page in your site. If you have done a good job on your title and description site map will provide keyword rich links surrounded by great text. The site map tool NewComputer mentioned above is a jewel he recently shared with DigitalPoint members.

Thanks, NewComputer, that is an impressive tool.

I thought I'd be creating a sort of graphic, maybe something like a block diagram. Does an example of a site map that you like come to mind?

    And thanks to you, Shannon.

I checked five or six of your site creations when you made your first reply. I do see art along the left side there. I pasted the URL into Google and selected the cache and then the text version and the links disappeared. That's what worried me aboout my own two sites that I mentioned in the first post.

    Yeaaah, Shannon.

That suggests a nice format. Consider this: In some of Marjorie's sites there's quite a list of articles with first and second pages and humorous little "Did you know's" and "printer friendly" versions thereof. Would I list every single page in the site? AND - update with every new article she gives me to post? Check the third one below if you could.

One thing very odd, though. It has created a page of links to the pages of the sites. I tried it with three sites: What's New Emu
    Laughing Matters Ink
    Don't Tech Me In

For all three it follows each link with "DESCRIPTION NOT FOUND".

    Now, why would that be?

Actually, Will.Spencer refreshed my memory not too long ago. I had found that tool a while back, but never kept the link.... kudos go to Will.Spencer.
