thye've been fine up until now

and I just checked the backup I received

they didn't backup the forum site (it's custom coded), and it's gone from the server

    WTF

I have an old version of it on my local PC
    but that's beyond the point
I had a lot of extra revisions of it on the server

but whatever, hostgator is a pretty good host overall
just make sure you don't do anything bandwidth intensive

They're not going to warn you. If you're eating up cpu, they have to suspend the site right away. Why? Just imagine having a hosting plan with hostgator and you're on the same server as cpu abuser, your site won't load, because someone was sent an email telling them about the CPU usage and they have to wait 24 to 48hrs for a response. You call up support and they say, "we have to give ample warning time to abusers, so you're just going to have a crappy hosting for that time."

Think about it. You have to cut people off. It's a gimmie.

Dreamhosters doesnt measure CPU power, just bandwidth. A script I run doesnt use alot of bandwidth, but ALOT of CPU power - I knocked down a whole string of servers for them one time, they suspended my account for 2 days. They have nothing in their TOS that bans SimpleTest or PHP Browsers, and Ive been with them for a long time, so they won't ever perma ban me ;)
