I 2nd the recommendation of SEOBOOK. TBH, I didn't pick up a ton of new stuff by any means (I've been in SEO for 7 years though) but I think it's a very comprehensive book and should do wonders to get a newbie up to speed quickly.

There is no one book or one site for SEO. SEO is self-learning and ongoing think. Forums like this or some other famous Webmaster forums, searchengines forums are good resource for SEO.

Google itself is the best resource for SEO.

I will not recommend spending the money on books or any other online materials. Instead I suggest you to spend on link building.

But if he doesn't know SEO, he won't understand what he is paying for and what its going to achieve. I recommend just reading around the forum, and asking questions when your unsure! :)

Note also that SEO for different types of sites can be quite different. Optimizing an educational site is different from optimizing a commerce site, so there is no golden formula. You have to learn and adapt according to your needs.

Yeah, perhaps that was a bad idea.

but honestly - Because its out there. The person who should be punished is the person infringing on the copyright. (the person distribuing the content online)

If someone copies your website, you go after the person with the site that displays your content, not the sites visitors.

I digress- just scour the web, and pretty soon you'll have a good mental model for "SEO"

And the people who promote the infringing who dont help matters at all.
