Hi all, I was just wondering, what are the risks associated to linking PayPal to my bank account? What is the information a cracker that managed to access my PayPal account would be able to access -- any sensitive information? Would he be able to buy anything at all with the money in my bank account? I live in Italy, in case that changes anything. thanks
He can change the Bank Account if you think he manages to hack the account and will withdraw all your money to his account. Well, after all , once a person hacks into your account, you will have to agree~~~~He's up to no good~~~
Right now I have a prepaid card, I'm withdrawing the PayPal money to it and then I get my money from the ATM and finally deposit it to the bank. It's a mess but at least PayPal and bank account are not linked. From what you told me I better keep it that way, then?
If you don't link your paypal account, don't think you can readily use it without getting limited. You need to verify.
Any transaction done in Paypal is sent to your email address. You can keep track and contact them if you have any problems. As stated, it take a few days for a deposit from your bank to your paypal account. If you keep your info safe, you should have no problem.
Does not matter as mine is Indian paypal account linked to my bank, there is no way to withdraw money from my bank via paypal.
yes exactly... how would someone be able to spend the money in your bank by accessing your PayPal account? Wouldn't you need to wire it somewhere? I understand that they would be able to put the money from my credit card/PayPal account to their own PayPal account, but from my bank account to their PayPal... how (if I have a prepaid card not linked with my bank, instead of a credit card)?
No,as far as i know,US and canada paypal accounts are directly linked to bank account,so even if paypal account has 0 balance, money can be sent from bank (via paypal).
Paypal is 200% secure.! take my word, you cant lose a single cent once your account gets hacked...Thts my word. i swear by Paypal!, ya, its possible to take funds, but you do get them back
Alright, thanks. I'll keep doing what I'm doing now, so the worst that could happen is losing PayPal and prepaid card credit instead of the whole bank account.
lol how can you back that up , there's a lot of people saying they have been scammed, I prefer not to risk. And what do you mean I'd get them back??
I don't agree.specially if u pay from paypal balance as "service" and chances are u may win the dispute but then paypal will say that they could not recover money from scammer account and all that shit,so best advice will be to add credit card and always use that for payment,so even if u get scammed, just do chargeback and u will get your money back.
As far as Paypal's end, they are very secured. The only point of weakness would probably originate from your end, ie if you use a weak password, share your login details, by clicking and providing your login details through phishing emails/sites or even be using a keylogger-infected computer. So the issue is more on your end rather than keeping your bank account in Paypal. Paypal is a multi-billion dollar corporation which sole business is handling virtual money and money transfers and I am sure they would have the best security money can buy as if anyone gets hold of their database, their livelihood and reputation would go down the drain overnight and I do not see that happening any time soon. I am not familiar with Italian Paypal account but if you cannot do 'Instant Transfer' or 'eCheck' options with your bank account through Paypal then there is no risk in there even if someone sees your bank account as they cannot withdraw from it. However, if you have paypal balance or a credit card linked to it, they can spend your money if they got hold of your password.
Well, even if someone hacks and tries to withdraw to his account, the transfer won't go as the bank account name has to match with the paypal name.
paypal is one of the most secure processors for this type of thing.. if you usually load less than $1k and one day decide to load $20k they will call you to confirm
To be extra safe, simply open a new bank account that is specifically for use with Paypal... fund that bank account whenever you need to fund your Paypal account... transfer funds to a non-linked account whenever you withdraw from Paypal.
Have a hard-to-guess password and your safe. If someone hacks your account cannot withdraw money to his bank account, he can only send money to his paypal account, but doing that they will know how he is so... I suppose you/we are safe.
