Ripped Off By Dynadot

Discussion in 'Domain Names' started by Rhiannon, Sep 24, 2008.

I just received an email from Dynadot saying this:

We have removed the domain webhost1.com from your account due to the previous account holder paying with fraudulent funds.
    Best Regards,Dynadot Staff

I went looking for my domain name and guess what, its being parked. This company needs to be shut down. Its not my fault what the person before me has done. I paid for my domain name and it was transfered into my account at Dynadot.

Now I have not only lost the money that I paid for the domain name, but also lost a terrific domain name that I was about to use!!

    Bunch of Mongrels!!

Damn man, that REALLY sucks. How much did you pay for the domain? Hopefully not TOO much.

I am pissed off that they can do this to a person, I have done all the right things, and am the innocent in all of this and they go and do this to me. It should never have happened!! They have no right doing this to me or to anyone else.

One can argue or even feel they don't. But...they actually do.

    Consider these, folks:

    1. Every registrar, including Dynadot, pays the VeriSign COM/NET Registry $6+
for every .com registration, renewal and transfer they accept in their system.

    2. Dynadot currently charges $8.99 a year. So $8.99 - $6+ = probably $2.

    3. Registrars currently have 120 hours (5 days) from when the domain name is
registered to get a refund if they cancel within that period. No refunds after.

    4. When a chargeback is made on a domain name successfully, the registrar
gets hit with a $100 or more chargeback fee, and they can't get their money
back from the Registry when that happens.

Going by what you described, Rhiannon, my guess is someone registered that
domain name with Dynadot with a stolen card or so, went past their 120-hour
cancel-refund period, eventually sold you the domain name, the actual holder
of that form of payment (credit card, PayPal, etc.) disputed it successfully,
then Dynadot got it with the fees associated with it. Since they lost money, it
makes sense for them to no longer provide the service they were supposed to
    be paid for.

Unfortunately you got hit with it. If anything, you ought to go after whoever
you "bought" that domain name from.

I'm not with Dynadot. But I've worked in the registrar business and dealt with
this sort of thing a couple of times and now an ordinary mortal, so I know how
it's like being on both sides.

One can understandably believe Dynadot is evil when one doesn't really know,
much more care, how and why these things can happen. But it doesn't always
mean they, or anyone, are out to intentionally rip-off someone when certain
    facts indicate otherwise.

There are at least two mistakes made by Dynadot, but before I comment I would like to know what is a status of the domain right now, is it cancelled , or owned by Dynadot, will it go through expiry periods as usually, or can someone else register it and when ?
Maybe Dav Zan will help to clear it out, or someone else , please ?

It has been parked at dynadot and the .net is bought as well. So I do think that someone has bought the domain.

I have had the domain name since the 10th August.

You didn't ask the old seller? What makes you so sure about what you said?

If the domain name is indeed webhost1.com, it was registered August 8 this
year. That means the seller had it for two days before transferring it to you.

You might want to check with the seller about this. Something's fishy.

I wish I could help clear this, keym. But more details are needed somehow.

They gave me back the domain, its back in my account :D And yes I do know how very lucky I am.

I received an email from them this morning to say that I have proved who I am and that they thought that I was someone else and had opened up a new account for myself there. I didnt have an account there before I bought the domain name.

I am over the moon about it :D Thank you all for your comments and advice here, its been appreciated it really has. It is frustrating not knowing how to fix up a situation like this. So thank you :D

You might want to ask a mod to perhaps edit the thread title based on what's
happened since then. And good to see it's resolved.

Dynadot has the absolute best customer service I've ever experienced with a registrar. I'm glad the situation was taken care of.

Fraud does not necessary means stealing.
When the machine compares the credit card account data with email account and some letters are different it triggers the 'fraud suspicion' alarm, then the data is reviewed by human.
Although Rhiannon has paid for the domain Dynadot too fast believed into the machine, and removed a domain without trying to communicate with the owner.
Anyways, nice to hear it's been solved out.

I don't know much about their service, but i am sure your posts in many forums (i have seen about 3) helped resolve the issue.
Many forum threads (like the Australian one you are part of) rank high in google now :)
well, +1 point for free speech.
Congrats on getting the domain back.

Thank you and yes its on a few other site, but I needed help NOW lol not later and some comments were able to be used more than other eg sending the link of where I said that I will buy the domain name. I didnt even think of that and it only came up on 1 forum. So by putting it on a few, I got heaps of advice, most said, no way would I get it back. Something simple like sending that link with everything else I sent, was more documentation.

I suppose I look like a real nutcase now thanks to google :( lol

I didnt think it would be possible to pull back a domain name for fraud?

Couldnt they have asked you to repay the registra fee?

From now on you should think better what title you choose for your threads. Even if they don't have the lowest price Dynadot is the best registrar in my opinion. I have many domains with them for over 3 years and NEVER had any problems with them. And I rarely saw anyone complaining about them.

Did you even read my thread??? I bought a domain name and because they thought that I was someone else, they took it away. Just like that, with just 1 email and no explanation. I have never done anything wrong. So yeah they did rip me off and its better wording than saying they Fu*#ed Me.

But it has worked out how it should have. But I should never have been put into this situation without more information from them. And its true, there are a lot of very happy people on that site. But in this case, no.
