Ringtone Copy Protection

    i'm confused of somthing.
    i know that copy songs of various artist are illegle. but if i convert them to ringtones by changing bitrates, and mixing, etc, do i get the resell right. please explain me.

    IANAL, but as far as I understand it, if you change it enough so that the average person won't say "That's Yesterday by The Beatles!" then it is sufficiently different to become your own work. I suggest asking a lawyer about it though, to ensure it IS sufficiently different.

    You are still stealing someone else's creative work. Whether or not they come after you depends on a lot of factors like how much you tend to make off their creative efforts. Remember it's not just the recording artists you have to worry about it's also that of the composer. And if they can prove that you purloined their work you will be held at fault. Just ask George Harrison if he was still alive about "My Sweet Lord"?
