The first thing you want when some lunatic goes on a rampage is every innocent and sane human being around with a gun in their hand to stop the violence. Criminals will find a way to get a gun if they want to use it like a criminal... only the innocent will be punished when you take the guns off the streets.
/shrug. Some people need killin. I'd much rather shoot an intruder. Dead people don't sue you for injuries incurred breaking into your house. You really should save the philosophising on the reasons for gun ownership to people who actually know something about it. Your ignorance and lack of education on the subject are becoming painfully obvious. Perhaps you should ask the people of Venezuela, Nazi Germany, Stalinist Russia, Cuba, or any other oppressive regime. So now you consider Congresswoman Giffords an anarchist or a criminal? Stick to looking down on lower castes. You don't know the first thing about gun rights. That is a horrible story! Have you sought therapy for your impotence?
Nope, sorry, that's not what I said. You need to re-read the thread, and what I said in the context in which I said it. I said no such thing.
Absolutely! US have more police casualties then UK or any other countries where police have baton..How's the gun helping them out?
And that shred of wisdom is based on what ? Police officers get gundowned in NI quite often . If you're gonna apply U.K. policies to the U.S. you will fail big time .
Gun lovers would mix law enforcement with military. Police should not be naturally inclined to use force or be equipped with fire arms in a free society....in a free society police would be in less danger without weapons. Obviously weapons are the line of defense for the military and would be in more danger without them.
A gun is a tool, just like a knife, a hammer, or a Pickup, all of which can be harmful in the hands of a lunatic, helpful in the hands of a sane person. Owning a gun doesn't make me a gun lover any more than owning a hammer makes me a hammer lover. The idea that tools in the hands of legitimate users should be outlawed because they could be misused is shortsighted. I saved a fellas life with a gun once. It wasn't loaded, but the guy with the upraised knife didn't know that, and they can be very convincing visual aids when necessary. My guess is the guy who would've been killed without that intervention isn't beating the drum to get guns outta the hands of private citizens... Though the fella that was about to kill him probably is.
In a free society, they would be in MORE danger. A true democracy (free society), you give up order for freedom. When that happens, you have total chaos. I fail to see how a lack of laws, order and enforcement would make it safer. Don't they teach history in school anymore? In the US, since you do not know, we have a Representative Democracy: "This approach entails people voting to elect representatives in a free and fair electoral system to make policy for them under a wide range of checks and balances to help ensure leadership accountability." Its those checks and balances, which include both rule of law (creation of law) and enforcement of law that keep "order".
Gun control in Japan is the most stringent in the democratic world. The weapons law begins by stating 'No-one shall possess a fire-arm or fire-arms or a sword or swords', and very few exceptions are allowed.Gun ownership is minuscule, and so is gun crime. As gun crime in other nations increases, many advocates of gun control urge that Japan's gun control policy be imitated.
It's difficult to understand how anyone would actually support disarming their citizenry (other than a tyrant, dictator), and in the United States, it would be a direct violation of the Constitution, as in "A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."
I dont know if this is posted in this thread already but Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona the congresswoman voted to keep Bear Armes and she is sticking too it even after the shooting. Its in are Constitution that we have the right to bear arms to protect ourselves. If you want to do something constructive band all high capacity ammo clips http://www.besttechnology.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=61 . This was used to take down so many people in the Giffords shooting.
That is the reason why the crime rate in the US will never go down. In Japan, robbery is almost as rare as murder. Indeed, armed robbery and murder are both so rare that they usually make the national news, regardless of where they occur.
It is also the reason we will never be successfully invaded and occupied. It is also the reason it would be very difficult for our government to turn into a regime that oppresses its own people.
