I have a photography site. I sale prints and downloads on the site(just my photos, there isn't another photographer) so I can't suggest my site to Artshotographyhotographer and I can't suggest to Shopping/Visual Arts/Photography/Exhibits because I sell dowloads too(not only prints). I can't suggest my site to Business/Arts and Enteraiment/photography/Stock because I sell prints! I don't sell photos directly from my site and instead sell them from www.printroom.com and www.redbubble.com so I have not a list of prices on my site (problem for suggesting to Shopping/Visual Arts/Photography/Exhibits) and there are links to those sites for buying photos. http://www.icecrystalphoto.info Could you help me?
You might want to suggest your site in Regional: http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/ If you have a location with an address, you would submit your suggestion to your locality (city). I haven't looked at your site, and I won't, because I can't review everyone elses site here, and I don't neccessarily edit in whatever area that is.
Just to clarify something . I don't think crowbar suggested that you submit your site directly under http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/ , but theoretically under a regional category , which could be your hometown / city or locality . Submitting sites under http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/ is not possible , as you will see
Please also see the reply I have given to your identical question in Resource Zone. Basically: do the best you can to select the most appropriate category, and an editor will move it if necessary when they review your suggestion. That's what editors do.
Always drill down as far as you can go before submitting a site. Leave it up to the editors to move your site up in the categories.
most important is to submit to a directory related to what your website is about. Regional categories will give you less strenght.
Regional categories are often less cluttered , in my personal opinion. A Topical category can easily have hundreds or thousands of submission and often wrongly submitted ones, which makes it strenuous for editors editing in those areas of the ODP . If you have a regional relevance or existence , it makes practical sense to submit there , anyway .

Submit your link to the closest category you think is suitable. After that, the editor will decide if the category is suitable or not. If they find it not suitable, they will help you move to a more appropriate category.
Actually, we'll just move it, it's a normal part of editing, but it's much better for you if you can submit it to the correct category to begin with, and saves us a lot of time in our editing sessions. Just as an example, in the Regional area of the Directory, most sites will be listed at the locality (city) level that they are located in. Many site suggesters are under the false impression that being listed in a nearby larger city, or at the State level, will give them more exposure (advertising). That's not true. Search engines will pick you up no matter where you are listed in the Directory, but editors place sites according to a certain format that makes sense to the Directory. A State level editor spends a lot of time moving sites from the State level down to the proper locality. Any time I do that, I don't bother reviewing or adding them to the Directory, I spend all my time moving them. The reason I do that is because most Regional editors are editing at the locality (city) level and don't have access to higher levels, so I try to send the misplaced sites down to them.
