Hey everybody, this is the first time I'm ever having issues with one of my domains, glad if you could give me your opinion on this. I've been with innter.net for a while and want to move my .net domain to a much cheaper registrar at the end of the year/end of contract. Today I received a invoice containing this information: Domainadministration (15 Min.) - 1 x 29.00 EUR = 29.00 EURTechnical editing - cut-off according to your request - 1 x 29.00 EUR = 29.00 EURSum : 58.00 EURI'm aware that they're entitled to charge a handling fee, but isn't that a little exaggerated? And if it is - is there any way I can object?Looking forward to reading your comments.Cheers,Olli
I don't think they are allowed to charge anything to move a domain. Unless they are doing it for you. I have done it several times without any problems. Also, maybe it has something to do with cancelling it. Don't cancel it, just transfer it.
Hey DonaldT, I agree, and will try to convince them how ridiculous I think it is. Anyway, with my new provider I checked before signing up that they do NOT charge anything for cancelling or moving my domains. Any more opinions or ideas what I could do? Cheers
It doesn't cost to transfer a domain from one user account at a registrar to another user account at that same registrar, that's called a push It costs an arm and a leg to transfer a domain across registrars...They REALLY don't want you to move domains to other registrars (aka their competitors) and will make you pay a fine for making them unhappy.
You're so right, GoldSEO. It's not such an important domain and I might just piss them off by replying that I'd rather cancel the domain altogether without moving. And I'll just wait until it's back on the market and pick it up from another registrar. Any risks (other than someone else grabbing the domain before me) I am missing??
Maybe it depends on the registrar. I have done it a couple of times. I once had hosting and domain registration with Dayana Host I think, not sure now, anyway they didn't want to allow me to transfer my domain after I moved my site to another hosting company. They wouldn't reply to emails etc... This was a few years ago now so I can't remember the exact details about how this all happened but I did some searching on G about transferring a domain name and found out that there is a number attached to every domain name. I needed that number to transfer the domain name and they had no choice, they had to give it to me. I then transferred the domain to another registrar. I think when you transfer domains the new registrar will do it for you if you have the info they need. My point is, don't just give up if it's a domain that is important to you. Do some research.
Yes you're right, registrars generate a transfer code which makes an easy transfer possible. But that's exactly the service they'd be charging me 58 Euros for, to generate that key and submit it (upon request) to the new registrar. I just sent them an email revoking my transfer request due to their fees policy. I'll use up my term and have it canceled at the end so they don't make any more money of me (yearly fee for the .net domain was 38 Euros there...) In reply I got an email telling me that they cannot accept enquiries from the email address I sent the cancellation from. Funny thing is, they were more then happy to accept my transfer request for which they would have charged me 58 Euros from the exactly same address... So I think we all can see how obsctructive their policies and methods are. Certainly not a company I want to pay any more $$$ to. On the bright side: My new registrar internetbs.net charges me the normal annual fee for a domain transfer (they say they are required to charge something) but then they give me the domain for free for one year, so it's basically free. It's a steep learning curve for me here Thanks all
Check their TOS see what they say about Domain transfers. If the have all their charges listen then U can't do much. But yet You can Make couple of topics at Domainors forums like Namepros and warn others to stay away.
who, check this out. Their (ex)clients seem to H-A-T-E that company! web-hosting-top.com/reviews/innter.net Seems to be a great site to bookmark anyway. Meanwhile, I was informed that innter.net charges 29 Euros for ending the contract at the end of the termin, whilst ending it immediately (same action for them) is free. Also, changing my order will (yes, you're right) incur a fee of 29 Euros. It's plain ridiculous, I won't be paying anything to them...
