I just noticed this stupid Google text link ad on my site: Make Google Your Homepage Access Google Conveniently By Setting It As Your Browser Homepage Google.com What's the point??? This really made me laugh!
Hi..Hi Google can do whatever in their advertising Network. God knows whether that ad will pay or not
Ads can also give the advertiser benefits even if they never get clicked. Advertisers like to repeat a message over and over. In this case, Google can do it for free.
The point was just to point out how odd it was to see an ad to set Google as your homepage. To me, It's as bad as Google advertising "Use Google to search the web".
Of course as they are highly promoting chrome. frankly speaking i like it much more than other browsers as it's really fast.
I can see where you would think that is strange. I wouldn't have thought about it if you didn't say something because I don't really look at the ads on my own sites. But after thinking about it, it seems to me that it makes sense for Google to advertise through the content network. You probably get some traffic that comes from sources other than Google, right? Where else on the web would you expect them to advertise? Now if it was an ad for Yahoo in the AdSense ads... Or if that same ad was in the search results at Google...
Of course Google advertising makes sense...it's what they are advertising that doesn't make sense (Make Google Your Homepage???). Next it'll be "Bookmark Google", or "Add Google to your favorites".
Exactly. It's a very common practice that goes way back. When I worked at a newspaper, we would fill unsold ad space with ads for products owned by the same publisher - and sometimes would even schedule those ads so that the space wasn't available to paying advertisers. I get Bing adsense ads on my sites all the time.
Again, it's what they are advertising that doesn't make sense (Make Google Your Homepage???), not that they are advertising.
I don't get why that's odd. People who use a home page (as opposed to setting it to about:blank) tend to be unsophisticated users. Unsophisticated users are probably quite likely to have their browsing habits affected by whatever page they see first when they start up their web client. Every home page set is a victory for Google.
it means you asked to make google.com as your browser default homepage, replacing Mozilla start page if you use FF..
Hahaha...Sorry about that but this is really ridiculous. I think you should check your keywords for the particular page. Google adsense snatches ad according to keywords in your page.
I understand your point. I feel it's odd because many users would do this anyway...right? However the unsophisticated users may not do this, or know how.
