I bought the domain http://www.rhinestonegems.com last year with the intention of opening a rhinestone jewelry store, but it's one of those projects that has taken the back burner. I just recently started to develop it again (it's obviously not done ;) ) and I was wondering: Is it worth investing my time? If I end up not opening a store, what do websites sell for nowadays? I seriously have no clue!

The site already ranks well for "rhinestone jewelry" (#2 in MSN) and I could definately get it to rank well in Google and Yahoo, with little effort. And, it currently brings in $40 a month is ad revenue.

So, whatta ya think? Should I continue to develop it with hopes of selling it in the future? Or, should I just let it simmer until I decide to pursue the jewelry store?

    Help! :)

If it's already bringing in $40 in ad revenue without ranking in G, then develop it.
Imagine what it could bring in if you got good G rankings :)

The price you could get for the site would depend on many factors:
    1) amount of income generated
    2) number of pages in SE caches
    3) PR levels
    4) Perceived potential
    5) traffic levels
Which factors would be relevant would depends entirely upon the reason why the person is buying the domain - not all domains are bought for income, some are just purely to generate coop weight for example.

If you're interested in selling the domain, PM me. I might be interested, as it would probably sit well with my other jewelry site.

I would keep it, it is earning $40 a month without any effort. I would just finish it off quickly. Throw in a few affiliates, add the coop and then leave it to simmer. Once in a blue moon add a couple of links + some fresh content.

If you sold it right now - even if you got 20x times the current monthly revenue - it would only be $1000. Finishing it and giving it a slight push it could earn that in a year (or much less) and you would own the site + it would be worth alot more as it would have more history, consistancy + bigger earnings. I like the name too.

I agree. If it is paying for itself. I would put some more content up there when you get time, see if you can get it to dominate for those terms. Then decide what you want to do with it when you see what the traffic is like.

like a store, location location location, and you have a great one. If rhinestone jewelry appeals to you, hell yeah go for it. You could probably get investors based on the number of hits alone. Good luck!

I think it's time you stopped dishing out orders around those ViciousOffices, and started mentoring some starry eyed young ladies so they can do all the amazing things you do. And what a playground to turn one loose on (the rhinestone adsense sandtrap).

If that lame suggestion isn't to your liking, perhaps you could look around at which sites rank high in the rhinestone realm and fire off some letters to them to see if they'd be interested in buying you out. I'd recommend coming up with a value you'd be satisfied with for selling the domain and whatever comes with it before starting down that path. As a starting point, it ought to be worth no less than 18 months of the $40 income coming in right now.

Something I noticed last time I was out in the real estate market was that so many places I looked at probably could have increased their asking price by several thousand Dollars (if not tens of thousands) had they merely invested a small amount in cosmetic work. So maybe a little facelift, or getting you Google ranking up might be worth it. Assign one of those Vicious Interns to it.

In any case, if you don't think you're gonna develop it further, don't sit too long on it, take what you can get and let it go.

turn it into a store, even more money. Don't drop ship though, no profit margins there.

I agree with the keep it decision. you offer a unique product that someone will want. I have a website http://www.PecanSyrup.com and I have been wrestling with a supplier for a time. It is the best pancake syrup ever BUT it's so expensive to make. I have settled with Amazon.com' product.

I've tried that. Unfortunately, I am probably a bitch to work for since I am a perfectionist when it come to my business....;). As they say, "if you want something done, you have to do it yourself"
