rewriting subdomains

I've seen a lot of hosts that allow infinite subdomains. I'm very unfamiliar with subdomains as I've always been on a host that limits the number that I can have, so I never bothered. Do any hosts let you do a mod rewrite to add subdomains as easily as you can with subdirectories or is there more to it?

It's a DNS that allows a wildcard for the subdomain.

Do they have to be set up manually or is it possible to create many based on a database?

I have no idea how to make those. A lot of us have wanted them ever since the seven billion page spammer got in Google.

Lol, I remember that, a whole lot of Google hand removals. I didn't make the connection. Must be pretty damn hard then, at least hard enough for me to give up. Thanks Nintendo, you are pretty on top of things considering you are 117 years old.
