Rewriting a popular blog post?

    I have a dilemma.

There is one post on my blog which happens to be the most popular, by far. The bulk of visitors are coming from Google, and I have almost as many visitors to this one post as I do for the rest of my blog combined.

    Here's the post.

The problem is, it happens to be one of my oldest blog posts, and my writing quality has significantly increased since then. I would like to rewrite and republish this post completely, but I'm not sure how it would affect my search engine rankings. While this one post is driving a lot of traffic to my site, I believe I could get more subscribers if it were more detailed and of higher quality. However, I'm afraid that doing this would lower the post's position on Google.

    What should I do?

If you remain the title same and only update the content then I don't think that it will drive some wrong result. I had also updated my few posts and its ranking is still same.

Not a bad idea to edit your blog post as you don't have to change title and you cann add additional information for more subscriptions.

You can edit the content but make sure to keep the title same.

As you said you get most views here so you can do some tweak to get more visits ;)

Internal Linking: You seems to be missing this. Link your other posts in this posts to encourage your visitors read other posts as well. I have been doing it and the results are really awesome. Do let me know the results as well.

Why don't you write a new post? The new post can link to the old one and you can add a line on the old one saying, for updated information, or something like that and link to the new post. Wouldn't it be great to have more than 1 powerful post drawing traffic to your site?

That's not a bad idea but still I would say rather than editing the same try creating a new one !! because I know if that article is created by you then you have some good writing skills. I will say at least I want to see something new because that topic looks quite outdated !! :) but you can always polish it !! :)

Thats a not bad idea at all.. you can edit the content but without your title.. polishing your old content that actually bring the traffic is something like get more of this in traffic sense.

I hope this will help you...

Well why should you re write it? Its a small article and so you can add some more values to it by writing some additional content in to it.

    +1 that's the best advice.
Write something like "UPD: and as 2014 this looks like.... LINK 2 NEW POST"
You end up with two powerful posts linked together.
Both, Google and your readers are gonna like that
