Thanks, I asked the designer to look at the nhl.com team sites and we combined some elements. The background was a bit like the Toronto Maple Leafs background. I liked the dark because it kind of gave that lack of day light feel that goes along with early morning ice time and the lack of sun during hockey season. What do you mean by cluttered; the header image or its placement?
I like the overall design. Very simple to understand, but the monkey confuses me - what does it have to do with Hockey? Maybe get artwork of a Gorilla/Monkey playing Hockey. Look at this example artwork: silverbackapp.com
It's a common term like rally monkey or grease monkey. Crease monkey is a common term for a hockey goalie and anyone playing the position will be familiar with it.
