Reviews in search results

This may have been addressed before, but a quick search didn't bring any results, so i'm going to post it here.

In Google's search results, you sometimes see under the website title for the page, 5 stars, and reviews stating how many ratings etc.

My question is, how does Google get this information? as I have reviews on my site, but Google doesn't pick them up. I know it can pick the date out of a page quite easily, but I would like it to find my reviews, does anyone know?

    Thanks

This is a good explanation on the topic - Google Search Now Supports Microformats and Adds “Rich Snippets” to Search Results. It does look like a small improvement made by Google like they had done once with forums type website, the related thread and sometimes with star rating.
