I have a new site (only been up for a couple of days), and I would appreciate any advice on the layout, and whether google ads are optimised in the directory - I decided to only put google ads in the directory until I have some good traffic. There is very little content, but the directory has listings and the forum is set up with categories (although no postings). Wow, it's a little, er, colorful. The bright yellow and dark purple seems to be a bit much. Maybe tone down the color?
Thanks for that - I always overdo the color a bit I've got rid of the yellow - is that better or still too colorful?
well basically looks fine by me... colors are ok. But it lacks some graphics... get some pictures up from some smiling girls and kids... and why not start with the adsense already in the articles ?
Thanks for the comment BaseB. I'm working on getting some pics from my aupair days into digital format and then I'll add them. I'm going to hold off adsense because the site doesn't have much content and I don't want to send people off to the competition just yet (not until I have a good user base). I've added it to the directory, since people going there are looking for other sites anyway.
Hey, Doesn't look so bad but I would give special attention to the menu - needs some more work and there still is room for improvement there.
I would play with the font of the header and the top menu. Can't say that i like the current font. Also, I'd create a new design for your top menu. The boxes you have are so 1995!
hmmm I like the font maybe change the color of the drop shadow on you logo to match the color of the site.

The menu at the top still could be refined. The blocky buttons just look dated. Perhaps a bar with them, or the cheesey 'folder-tab' style. Not saying these are good, but they are a less dated style. Use of colors are done well, I personally would change the font used in the header, but that is a personal choice. I looked at it using 1280x1024 resolution and it seemed quite stretched. You may say, well what do you expect using that resolution, but a lot of sites nowadays are set not to stretch so much with higher viewing resolutions. Just something to consider, I'm sure it looks fine at 800x600.
Thanks starmonkey and ehsen. I will play with the menu and see what I can come up with to make it look better I do like the font - something fun to tie in the kids theme, but yes I can see how it wouldn't apeal to everyone. Thanks for everyone's help - I'm sure it's improved my site A LOT
wow, purple.... but okay I can understand it, an online meeting place for ppl that are away from their families, okay, I see it, but what I son't understand is why?? the layout is okay, there is some nice color... if you are into thoose things... why not use a color change, and whe the font, work on it...
