I have started an aquarium site and it is live now, but am looking for suggeations that would make it better. please go to http://www.getahugetank.com and give me any ideas on how to make it better!! Thank You in advance...
I would say if you don't have images, then do not include the item in a gallery until you do, especially if your selling something, and I would suggest you take out that manual slide show thing you have. Isn't that what the gallery is for? And definitely get rid of that HUGE pic you have at the bottom. Colors and layout are good I especially like the fish for the logo, nice colors.
The reason the pic is at the bottom is becuase the cylinder aquarium on the front of petage mag is one we built. i agree about the pics just uploading them now, and thanks for the advice!!
Very interesting site. The general layout is good, but the picture quality is not. The thumbnails appear distorted and the actual pictures are not very clear and sharp. You've made a good start, how about adding a section to show some of the custom jobs you have done (completed and installed)? Also, don't forget to work on your SEO.
so far the seo has been going great, I have had the site live for 2 months and already have a google pr4 and most of the key words i want puts me in the top 10 so far. But there are always some words that are a little harder to get, and thanks for your review.
You may want to consider streamlining your forum - http://www.getahugetank.com/forum/index.php Its not recommended to start with so many forum sections until you get a lot of post. Then create the new section and move post into it. When someone visits your forum right now, it looks very empty. Starting with fewer sections will make your forum look more active to guest. Also, PHPbb is not a very secure forum software. Consider going with SMF, IPB or VBulletin. If you plan on this being a real commercial site, consider getting a license for VB. Its the best commercial grade forum on the market. You dont have to answer this, but is the forum and the website integrated? It looks like you had the website built for you, at the bottom of the page is - Powered by Advanced Productions Talk to advanced productions about forum integration with what ever software you are using. And consider asking them about IPB or VBulletin integration. If you decide to upgrade to a either forum later, will you be able to? As for PHPBB, I have been a member of several phpbb forums that have gotten hacked. Most of them either give up and close their doors forever, or move to a better forum software. Maybe even integrate the forum a little better into the website. So that when someone enters the forum, the left side bar is still visible. This makes the whole site seamless to the visitor and has a more appealing look. The gallery has the left side bar, but not the forum? Does the gallery work? There are no images there. ==============EDIT================= The latest version of PHPBB is PHPBB3, not 2. The forum software you are running will reach its end of life around October of 2008. This means that support and security patches will get fewer and fewer. Link to the phpbb end of life announcement - http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=900655
Thanks ~KEV~, I didn't know about the forum problem I will definatley look into the others you suggested!!
