So I'm my own worst critic and I have a hard time liking any designs I make, so I'm asking for your opinions. I have wanted to completely recode my site for some time so that it will use tableless CSS and i've wanted to make the pages wider, so i thought why not redesign it while i'm at it? So the first question is does my proposed design look better than the current design? Any ideas you have for improvements on the new design are also welcomed. keep in mind, it's just a mock up! Thanks! current site: http://www.mobilealmanac.com proposed design: http://www.mobilealmanac.com/redesign/
What are you running it with? At first glance I thought it was Joomla but then when I see the code it doesn't look like Joomla. I personally like the "propose redesign template. It provides space for adds and the products. Yeah, you're right it takes time to come out with a better design. I keep tweaking this site layout over the past few weeks - but still not satisfied with the outcome until now.
To me, I really like the old design. I'm not commenting on the HTML/CSS but just the design that I see. I like the old site because: -It is easier to navigate. The links on the left are not scrunched together but listed one at a time for easy navigation. -The links on the left have a different background color so it makes your content stand out more. -I like that it doesn't use the entire width of the screen. I think it should use up more...somewhere in the middle of the old and new site. On the flip side...I don't like the background image on the old site for the "Latest Cell Phones" and "Cell Phone Ratings" sections. Just my thoughts...hope it helps!
My comments.... I would prefer your proposed design... However, I would think that it might be better to remove your advertisement banner for both designs. Some of these advertisement keep moving and tends to redirect readers... To improve further, you might want to consider inserting the photos for some of the top rated or latest phone. This may make the whole website look more interesting.... Cheers! Patrick
