I just opened www.chronicforum.com and I am looking to see what you guys think of the style and layout?

The logo is temp, I am working on a good one, that is just a place holder, something I made quickly.

So what do you guys think? Any suggestions for new catagories?

Nice clean layout. Space for a large banner in the top right. Now the hard part, getting traffic!

Well said. I agree with most of what you said. I don't agree with doing paid posting or running contests. I don't think you should need to give incentive to get users to posts. If they see quality content on the forum, that alone should be enough incentive to want to participate in the discussion.

To relate this more to the OP, one thing where IMO you have gone wrong, is starting a forum on its own. You should add a forum to an already established traffic site. When visitors see there are very few members and discussion, they have no incentive to join the forum.

Well, I am still thinking that once you start a forum you have to attract people in a certain way. Usually you do not have content in the beginning and you have to attract people somehow.

And when you get the ball rolling it should be the content only that attracts the people.

Yes the admin and getting other "knowledgable" members to add posts at the beginning is definitely the way to go. But "paid posting" in the traditional sense is a bad idea IMO. All it does is add members and useless posts, doesnt add quality to the discussions because they have no idea about the subject.

Would paid posters be a good idea? I was thinking paying .02 per post, max 25 posts, for 15 members only, so I get a decent amount of threads.

    Yeah, that is kinda cheap..

I might do like 10 posts for $1, for 10 members.

Thanks, I hit gold with this theme, it works perfect for my site, and it was a free one from minerskins.

Anyways, I am working on a new logo, better leaf, better lettering, smoother text and such.
