Hello DP reviewers, I'd like to have your opinion on my registration page at http://www.best-reviewer.com/user/register Just yesterday Tiffany Dow did a quick review of it and I've improved it following her advice, you can see the video of her review below and you'll see there's already a bit of improvement, but I'd like to know what you think I could improve to generate more subscriptions at the BASIC LEVEL membership at least.
Hi I had so many different things to write but eventually I found them on your site. For me there is so much going on that I really didn't know what to do. The homepage where you land on has everything there but not immediately- the link to "register" comes before why I should register, which is in "sales text". I am not a fan of the Alexa visits line because that is just a waste of realestate. And there are so many ads on the front page that it becomes quite distracting and unprofessional. When I sign up, there is no explanation of why I should go pro from basic. Also the preacher video is odd, title should be "made $X in X time using best reviewer" or something on those lines. The green text is odd when bold and odd as a color. There is nothing good or bad about it, just odd. Prove the following: "Stop wasting your time elsewhere and start creating your best reviews while at the same time building your backlinks and earning more money with our generous 100% ad revenue sharing and referral program!" Now think of this problem. If I am going to pay $27/ month why should I? How can you guarantee that I will get my income back? There is no proof to the model. Also why should people pay? There doesn't seem to be too much of a win win, or non that the site proves. How about everyone pay $1/ year (which still weeds out freeloaders and offers credit card details)? Then the amount of money that they make from your site would be worth it. Even if I had to pay $27/ year I class that as an investment, I want to know that I am going to get that back plus some so it is worth my while. Good luck with the site.
Thank you very much for your review. It's true that I simply don't explain upfront what is the difference between the different membership levels. The pro one is the one where FOR sure you earn much more than the $27 spent monthly, but that isn't explained anywhere. I am creating a comparison chart of the threee membership level and features that will help, I'll link to it from the registration page. But from what I've read in some places, I should focus on the benefits that my site will bring, not the features. And also I should add social proof. ie. testimonials from existing members. I get everything you're saying about too many ads on the front page and other pages. About that I have no other excuse to give than it's all going to go away, I'm in the middle of it, I was simply giving the registration page up for review since people can register at least for the basic membership while I'm sorting out the rest of everything. But I get it, also the register here before the actual text, yes it's a bit silly, at first I made it so it aligns with the register button on the right, but honestly I don't think it aligns anymore and that's not a good enough reason. For the color for the headline, well if red and green just don't do it, maybe a simple dark grey or plain black will do after all.. Also about the Alexa line, I don't know what you're referring to because I don't recall using Alexa on my site. If it's the graph coming from google analytics, well I know it doesn't serves me well because at the moment the traffic is on the low side but at least it shows I'm transparent about it, just like at the bottom of the page, the traffic stats are available, no guessing, no bullshitting, just the real stats. I'll try to take on board your remarks, and thank you for taking the time to give them to me.
Hi NP. Blue is also a nice color But if green works, go with it. Try different combinations over a testing period of a week, some might give better sign ups than others. Sometimes red can be too much. It is true that the benefits will give more sign ups, the proof is just not there, so yes the social testimonials will work well. And those testimonials can be intertwined with the sign up page, on the front page (which is where most pre-authors will go to first) and then have a page full of them. Getting past the barrier of "what is in it for me" is the hardest part. Yep, it was Analytics Traffic Line. You can be transparent, but there is probably no need for it. Facebook/ Twitter likes are good enough. And that Facebook box should be higher up in the margin to "promote your site" above the fold. The table to differentiate between different plans will work well and probably be better than the bullet pointed text that is present. "Do you want to increase your web traffic generation and visitor conversion skills?" By how much? %, number would work well. Doesn't mention the amount of money that an average user might be able to get, that is probably needed on a signup page where you have to pay for something. Remember your main competition is Hubpages and peoples own websites, you really have to figure out why your site is better than that...plus you have to pay for yours. Even interview some of the contributors and ask them for their opinion. Why are they with you and paying for it? A month free or a certain amount of their subscription back would be a nice incentive. I would also have different front pages and test those as the front page is going to have to convert people to go "good idea, lets join". I would also test out how many users are being referred from active users and how many are new. All the best.
You know what they say: "Content is king", it would be good to see more and more reviews, top 10's are the best. Think about it, having daily content, everyone will come in.
I think my biggest pet peeve specially about your registration page is the non tabulation of your forms. And this is exactly what I mean: For example: I click on login, it refreshes a WHOLE new page. Why not just add a small tabulation script to tab over to the different "page". No reloading, no new page. All on the one page. The "Request New Password" shouldn't be a tabbed link - It should be where the login box is (underneath). Also - who is honestly going to "Like" a login page, or forget password page - If you can, remove this from the page. Redundant text - You have an image for the types of packages, then you have the text as well right above it - Just put the image and the description below the image (or next to if you choose to) Username and password fields don't need to be so long. Make them all the same length as the password fields - keep symmetry across the board. Hope this helps =)
It's true this registration page has many flaws, and I admit that I have very little control over the form design, otherwise I wouldn't do it like it is now. My site is based on Drupal CMS, so if I want to make big changes to this page I have to learn the Drupal way or try to go around it, like what I'm doing now, adding a long text explanation with an odd video to the sign up page. I think I should create a page to explain more in details, with links back to the sign up page. Instead of transforming the sign up page into a very long page.
