Hey guys, can you check out my website at mathcalcs.com and tell me what you think? It'd also be great if you could suggest new math tools to add on, or join my forum. Thanks in advance!

Well the typograph(logo) is pretty rough. Given the demographic I would suggest making that a tad smarter looking in general. Its not real vexing in your case.

I would further suggest looking into this if you have not already done so. http://www.mayer.dial.pipex.com/tex.htm

It would likely be a tad easier to knock that up with wordpress so you can focus on math and not have to write code. Although that should be fairly easy for a math fellow.

That said, I get you are largely starting with calculators(which is nice because the site actually serves a purpose) but at the end of the day having some equational related matters would help folks as well.... Sorta like a Q&A section(easy with wordpress as well). This would also provide you with a revenue model of sorts.

hope that helps and makes a bit of sense.

    Hey Nigel!
Thanks for teh response! I know you took time out of your own day to review my site, so I cant thank you enough. Thanks for the Latex site, I will definitely use it!
    Quick questions:
Can you explain what Wordpress is? From what I heard it is sortof a site builder... maybe?
Finally, about the Q&A: should it just be random important equations that are sorted by category?
    Thanks,
    Luke

I would run a spot where folks can ask arbitrary math questions as well as having the calculators. Though, the calculators are good stuff.

Wordpress is blog software so you have back-end you can log in to to add copy edit things including the site and so on. Its free and quite frankly one of the top 5 apps on the internet.

However, WP is crazy advanced now. It is more a cms(content management system) than a blog. Don't let the term "blog" run you off.

There is a latex plugin for it and for your tools you just need to add some code or a plugin to stick tools like that on a page. It is painfully easy to use. Quite literally this can be done in about an hour and you would have something ripping cool that you simply login to and add pages, make blog posts and so on.

I am a tad swamped right this sec but I mess with this stuff daily. I can likely free up about 15 minutes if you want to hop on IM. I can run you through something or other i am working on currently so you can see how it works etc.

Installing it simply requires a LAMP server.

I tried to find a quick example but the first 20 math sites I looked at are pretty bad so I would have to poke around a sec lol...

Thanks for all the help! I do not have IM so I won't be able to do that. Could you give me a link to something you are working on so I can take a look? I literally learned html/css/javascript/php/mysql in around 2 weeks so I am very weak at website stuff.

A good logo really makes a difference. Try buying a professional one.

And don't use the side background, use blank white background and put something better in the header.

Its very old school for the layout. i would remove the background. Like the others said, a logo makes all of the difference. I also agree with Nigel, use a CMS and have more of an interactive site.
