The blog looks nice, blends well with the website and Forum. One thing I noticed... The Search Button Breaks the layout going over the border. Try using an image for the button.
It looks ok, the gold colour in the header isn't doing anything for the site. It will be pretty hard to go up against sitepoint / digitalpoint and other already established sites that sell websites so good luck to you for trying
I like the topics of your blog. I usually prefer "cleaner" layouts. The boxes on the sidebar don't have much design value for my taste, but it could only be a matter of taste. I never criticize something unless it's a total crap and, obviously, this is not the case here. Indeed, the search form needs some styling. Also, the sidebar links are not very visible. Try to darken the color a bit. Good luck with the blog and tons of inspiration for writing!

There is 5 on the front page. I dont want to overload the front page. In your opinion why is it better to have more there?
Since you're only showing excerpts, you could go for more posts. Excerpts are for people that prefer scanning websites in search for content. The idea would be to allow me to scan more and faster without having to press "next" 10 times to find what it would be an interesting reading. You could also show a longer excerpt for the latest post using the <!--more--> option in WP, and calling the content with the_content() function, and for the rest with the_excerpt(). Check out the blog in my profile for an exact example of what I'm talking about.
How many do you think would be best. The last 10? 20? posts. I think you may be right 10 would give more info on the different topics covered.
