Hi, I am making a computer services website for a specific region www.VancouverComputers.info. Since everyone here is in the field of computer services, what do you guys think? It's under development. It's truly meant to provide services, not so much content. The content will be basically reviews. Some pages are sort of empty. sorry. But I have one good article that is very popular. That is my main thing at the moment. I am planing to add a directory for the area and tons of reviews. Should I make companies pay to get listed in the directory and have links from the directory to their own websites? I also have a small "good bargains" section that is popular as well, finding freebies and posting them there. I haven't been into domain development in a few years, since 2000 I think.
whats the ad at the bottom of the page for? Its well proven that placing an ad at the bottom of a page causes it to perform poorly . It looks out of place to me. Also do you want users to stay on your site and purchase your services or perhaps read a review and follow a (much more profitable) affiliate link? Then I would lose the ad. Unless its performing really well. In other words if you haven't made more than $10 a month since adding the ads, lose them and focus on driving customers to other areas of the site. Grab me! Visitors to your site are probably looking for something specific. Having to read through the text isn't clear enough to me what it is you do. I would change to something with Large Headers for each service (most popular at the top) and then describe the service and how you're better than the competition below that. Or maybe just H2 links to pages that go into more detail. Make sure your XHTML code validates and when it does advertise it Consider spicing things up a bit, add some stock photos or change the opacity of certain areas of the page Consider enabling gzip compression to increase the transfer speed of your site. (15 seconds for dialup users right now). See my recent blog post on enabling gzip compression if you need tips. Reduce the number of keywords in your Meta tag to nine or so, this tag is very depreciated by search engines these days but having it crammed full of keywords is a bad sign! Geo-tag your site to achieve better local results
I suppose its nothing big. Many people don't know what it means but its sort of like putting the BBB seal on your site, it seems to give some authenticity to it. You certainly don't lose anything by doing it and more tech savvy people will see it and appreciate it
Yeah, like the last posters said, get rid of that ugly ad bright ad. I would suggest adsense, much prettier. I think you also need a better looking traffic counter.
Thank you for your suggestions guys. I have been adding content, a directory of computer stores is the major addition at the moment.
Good enough for a .info , brush it up and use some colors and remove the ads from the front page and put some deals of the days slide shows, put it in craigslist and tell me when you made your first sale. Maybe you want a store in toronto later on.
Your home page menu should look like http://www.vancouvercomputers.info/productcatalog.htm and all the links that you got on your home page, put them on the bottom of the page or on a left/right navigation.
