Hello! Would anyone like to comment on my current google ad placements ? I am also trying to put a banner to the left of my header title. I am currently getting around 1000 uvs a day but not getting a good CTR. Link to the blog is on my sig.
You should remove the 468x60 ad in the header, and replace it with a graphic of some sort. Then, modify the 468x60 ad at the bottom of your post and make it a 336x280 Finally add a 250x250 ads within the post at the beginning, with a div float:left so that the text wraps around it. And of course you can use adlink and adsense search to add to your earnings.
Hi Thanks for the tip. Hopefully, I'll see even the slightest of improvements for my CTR . Yesterday I got 0.05 US from 4 clicks. Is there any way of getting higher bid ads? Thanks
For the amount of money per click, it's all about the topic you're talking about on your page. I see two problems with your blog actually: 1. the topic (niche) of computer related tips is not paying that much, when it is so general. There are subniches in computer that pays better, like software, antivirus, graphic packages, things that people can buy and that others are selling. 2. when your main audience is too internet savvy, the CTR goes down. the best thing in my opinion is to deal with dumb topics that can be read by nearly everyone, because they appeal to a large audience now that internet population is not mostly composed of geeks. Because this audience is much larger and has a tendency to click on well blended ads which reads like something that can interest them. Most of them don't know and don't care about adsense.
JamesColin provide some awesome tips! I also suggest putting an 250x250 @ the beginning of your post... As for your CPC....you niche topic is pretty broad which makes it harder for Google to find relevant ads to show on you blog, also you could possibility be smart price for the same reason. First figure a more targeted niche to focus you blog on, maybe rewrite you post to include that targeted niche keyword, but in the mean time turn off Adsense on your blog for atleast a week then turn it back on once you made the fixes...hopefully you see an increase in CPC!
Thanks for the tips! I've tried putting a 250 x 250 at the beginning of my posts but it ends up making my title and the first few lines of paragraphed really squashed up so I've decided to stick with the 200 x 200. I'll try and stick with one of the niches you suggested above although most of my traffic is coming because of an article on facebook games. Would computer games be a reasonable niche to focus on?
I would say that it would be. The best advice I can give honestly is to write on what you know, and love. If you know a lot about gaming, and love to write about it, then unique content is going to much easier, and more fun, for you to generate.
a 200x200 is fine too. But don't put it before your title. put it just before the body of the post, after the title. so that it is embedded in the content. As for the video games topic, it is well known to be very low paying. Like very very very low. So if you feel you can get a lot of traffic with your game related content, then it won't matter, you'll earn good money. Otherwise, find something else, think popular topics, mainstream. I give you hints : sports event in live streaming every week end, formula one, soccer, etc. People are looking for that. Things to print, mother's day, father's day, christmas, birthday cards, etc. Those are topics for everyday people, they now have internet and they are a lot more likely to click than computer geeks.
Keep in mind, that you want ORGANIC traffic to your blog....they are WAY more targeted traffic then say from Facebook apps traffic. Only way to get ORGANIC traffic is to rank in the SERP....it's isn't to hard to do if you pick the right niche or drill deeper into you current niche. *organic traffic are more likely to click your ads
Hey guys thanks again. I've decided to focus on computer security (e.g. antivirus software) and will spend the next few weeks focusing on content. P.S. Thanks JamesColin! After I followed your first recommendation, My page CTR went from 0.04 to 1.74%.
