Hi all We've just done a major re-vamp of our website, enables search, and incorporated a number of web 2.0 technologies. GloLance.com is an online services marketplace, specializing in freelancing related topics. Thought I'd just put our hand out there and ask for some feedback on the design aspects of the website. I guess the following are my key questions I have: 1. Do you get what the site is about in the first 5-10 seconds? 2. If not, what do you think could be done to enable that? 3. Any general improvement suggestions? Oh, in case you don't get what the site is about; hahaha there's the concept in a nut-shell, I guess essentially what we try to convey in the first 5-10 seconds people visit the site: GloLance.com exists to connect small and medium business outsourcing service providers regardless of locations, and assist them to develop a successful relationship, be it onshore or offshore, project work, contracts or permanent employment. Oh, the previous design can be seen at: https://www.it-globalized.com/images/old_itg.jpg - although bear in mind that colours etc have been distorted by the formatting...
For me the first 10 seconds it looks like a giant load of text without a clear visual ordering. Everything is fighting for attention. Try to find out what is really important for visitors and what can be moved down, smaller font, etc. Something you could try is making one block a really distinct background color (dark blue if you wish) with the most important things: searchbox for projects/providers and the links to the projects and providers lists. You've got three important taglines: "Global Marketplace", "Online Services Marketplace", "Global Outsourcing For Everyone" I think the first does not tell me anything about your site. Why not combine the three in one clear tagline and put it at the top in a large font? Some other questions: Why not put the search box and the "popular searches" closer together. Why is the "New to GloLance" box at the bottom? I only noticed it after I explored the site by myself. In general I would welcome some whitespace between the columns and blocks. It's not that you have to much content on the homepage, but the structure could be better to help users grasp the essence of your site quicker.
Hello ITG I had a look at your Freelancing Site today. My Thoughts Logo It didn't capture what your website offers right away. I think that your slogan, 'Global marketplace', should be changed to something like: 'Global Freelance Source' or something like that. Template Not to keen on the template. It seems more like a forum template rather than a freelance outsourcing template. Navigation I find that there are many repetitive links.... could you reduce some of the repeated ones? One thing that I found confusing... was no Home Button.... I started clicking the links... but I wanted to get back to the home page.... my initial response was to click the home button... I think that the top menu buttons could be redone to have Home, About Us & Contact Us.... the About Us and Contact Us button are difficult to see in the footer. Missing Image One thing I noticed in Internet Explorer and Opera was that there seemed to be a missing image in the top left hand corner. This didn't happen in FireFox. See images below: Opera Browser Image Internet Explorer Image Conclusion The site didn't capture what it had to offer right away. It is quite busy... and should be toned down a bit. It is an interesting market for a website... but also a competitive market for websites. Good Luck! This review was done with 3 browsers (FireFox 2.0.0.9, Internet Explorer 6.02 & Opera 9.24) on Windows XP SP2. I do hope this is helpful. Respectfully, Lhlalyam
