Hey I have made my own browser game, currently going through the second beta test, building up quests etc. and it's been quite hard. That's why I believe a website of the kind I propose would be useful once I get around to adding all the tutorial I want. Not to mention I would love for people to suggest and post tutorials in the forums and then be added with credits in the main blog and build a community of browser game creators. I have some sponsors that are willing to give some money as prizes if we have enough members to do competitions like the best browser game made in a month or a certain period. What do you guys think about the design, idea, tutorials, etc? Every tutorial step has its own live demo. If you could give some feedback on the tutorials themselves as well it would be great... I look forward to improving them as much as possible and I'm sure they're not half as clear as I want them to be right now, perhaps? Again: http://makingbrowsergames.com And if you want to see the forums as well http://forums.makingbrowsergames.com
First, I must tell you that I have never played (or developed) a game online, so my opinion may not be worth much but the first impression I get is that it is milk toast boring. Although your design is nice and clean, there is no excitement to the page that would draw me in and promise me an exciting experience and/or vital information. Even a graphic (ad, maybe?) in your sidebar would help bring some life to the page. I respectfully suggest some colour and game related graphics, assuming it doesn't slow down your page load time too much. Some colour at least. Sorry but that is my initial impression. Like I said, I'm not involved with this niche, so maybe everything I've said is really not relevant to game developers. I am able to accept that I can be wrong sometimes.
I want to say that this would really be interested to many people. Browser games fill a unique niche where people who dont have all the time to play a game can sit down and enjoy such games. On top of that, more and more people are going to be able to have access to these website, and these people are also going to be younger. Which generally goes towards this niche. I have dealt with a lot of flash gaming websites over the past few years. This would be a great place to start, and you have the right idea in mind.
Annea, I've been searching and now I'm going to look even deeper, maybe make one from scratch, for themes that are clean and yet have a bit of color but also work right. I think I'm going to go for a paid one in less than half an hour cause there's a lot more and way better choices there. Thanks for your thoughts . MaxSerp. My first tutorials will focus on PHP, MySQL. The advanced tutorial will go into deeper PHP and Javascript, Jquery and other libraries. There will also be a tutorial with NodeJS, this allows you to create live applications such as chat, or live duels, things like that. I've worked with flash as well, but I think today canvas is more popular? if the site goes well I will go into that as well of course +nodejs = chaching on that one. xD Thanks again, looking forward to more feedback .
Updated the looks of the website and the forum, added fb google and twitter connect and created profiles on these networks for the project :-? I see a couple of views on the thread, would you mind leaving a hint as well about what you think?
Your site is MUCH more attractive now! Good job. What about a 'Subscribe' button? Are you planning on building a list?
http://makingbrowsergames.com/ I've just added a newsletter form, was that what you were referring to? Also added a few new tutorials, and I am rewriting those already published a few times a day right now xD.
You are on a roll man, keep up the good work. It is these small steps that really start making the website feel and look great.
Thanks to a lot of many reviewers from another site a lot of modifications have been made and a new logo is in place plus a lot of content. Thanks MaxSerp, will try to keep things high quality . Waiting for more feedback. http://makingbrowsergames.com
Very nice, clean, looks like lots of helpful info and user friendly. I like your new logo, too! It's come a long way, you should be proud.
