I bought this site last month. Signup is free, and you then enter domain names to monitor. We check your domain names every 15 minutes, checking the website, ftp, smtp, and ssl to be sure they are all up and running.

If the script sees that your site is down, you get an alert email. You also get an email when the site goes back up. You can monitor as many sites as you want. It maintains a log of total downtime so you'll eventually get a percentage like 99.3% uptime viewable from your member area.

For an annual subscription of $12.95, it will send the alerts via sms to the user's cellphone.

I had to re-code a bunch of the site. Paypal was not integrated, and I thought some of the code was just a little sloppy. For example, it required register_globals to be on, which is an unacceptable security risk to me, so I had a lot of clean up work to do just to get the scripts to work correctly.

Anyway, please take a tour, let me know what you think, and feel free to sign up and test it out. I need to know what bugs are still there.

Wow! Interesting. One comment, I think, that you are using too much bold in the text.

    Good point. It is distracting.

FYI I'm running a $7.95 promotional rate for DP members who want the txt msg alerts. After Jan I'll probably bump it back up.

The layout looks nice and clean! For some reason, the main site layout isn't completely centered onto the screen..(it's more to the left).

So who is your sms provider?

@12.95 flat rate, what happens if someone gets a bunch of alerts because their host is dropping the ball too often?

Actually we're running a $7.95/yr special right now. The site uses its own SMS script to send out emails and SMS's via PHP.

The answer to your question is the user just gets a bunch of emails...there's no additional cost to me if your host goes down a lot, you just get your inbox or cellphone flooded with alerts! :D The annual fee goes to maintain hosting, improve the site and "hopefully" a little profit. It also helps subsidize the free service to those who don't pay for the SMS feature.

Frankly I think even $13 a year is a bargain for text message alerts considering what other fancier sites out there are charging either monthly or per text.

    Hi Chris,

Sorry if my earlier post sounded like sniping. I was only curious because SMS by email is only common in North America. In other places, SMS is a per message charge that is paid by the sender. And of course, I am always ready to learn from other sites who offer free services but somehow manage to make a profit:D

    No problem!

I've not made a profit yet....I haven't even sold a subscription yet. Have gotten some free service signups and some google clicks, but I haven't really pushed the site out there yet. I guess you'd call it a "soft launch"
