If possible keep them next to the theme screenshot. Blend them with the content. I think in your case , blending will yield results.

Placement is fine. Why do I see ads displaying games on a site that is about wordpress themes? You gotta work on your on site SEO in order for the advertisement match the content of your site. Otherwise people won´t feel a need to click on your ads.

when I usually put the adsense ads next to the post in the wordpress plugin. I use adsense daemon plugin.
