Do you ever wonder how accurate WordTracker is? A simple method for testing WordTracker's accuracy is to take your top ten keywords and put them into WordTracker. Does WordTracker tell you that those keywords are good ones to target? Here's what WordTracker says about the top ten keywords for one of my successful sites: KEI Analysis, Count, 24Hrs, Competing ===================================== 0.886, 524, 61, 30986 22.064, 328, 38, 4876 0.001, 34, 4, 1924165 1.411, 941, 109, 627603 0.006, 91, 11, 1436378 0.243, 114, 13, 53539 2.429, 119, 14, 5831 0.517, 46, 5, 4095 0.007, 23, 3, 77448 0.094, 3, 0, 9 What does that mean? Here's an excerpt from the standard WordTracker explanation:Generally, a poor keyword to target will have a KEI of between 0 - 10. It's not wise to target keywords with this KEI as there is too much competition and you will probably end up on page 34 and no-one will notice you. In other words, WordTracker was wrong nine out of ten times. Note: The first and sixth items are skewed, because I have done offsite optimization for those terms. Therefore, WordTracker could optimistically only be wrong seven out of ten times.
Will- any thoughts on how this can be? Many people trust WT to be reliable...and do you know of any other KEI tool that might be more accurate?
It seems to me that the concept of KEI is fundamentally flawed. I would like to see test results from other webmasters.
