Hi, I was wondoring about the legal issues involved with reverse engineering a website design. I did a quick forum search but found nothing so posting here. Is it legal to reverse engineer a website design that is copyrighted? What if its not copyrighted? How do you tell about reverse engineering a site design based on what you see and actually nicked html source code? What parts of a site design can be copyrighted? Can you copyright a site design? Many Thanks, Technosites
If you copy a design it's copyright infringement, no matter how different the source code is. Should be common sense but I guess it's not.
i wouldn't copy something directly although i might take inspiration from it and mix in few other things so that it doesn't look exactly like it and there wouldn't b a post like the one above.
The more I read some post out here on DP actually.. the more I am starting to have some fun... "reverse engineering" a website design..? Perhaps your not using the good term here... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reverse_engineering here's a way old memories place I remember... http://www.woodmann.com/forum/index.php might look at http://fravia.com/basic.htm for fun also... In any cases.. whatever your going to do with this website... your surelly not going to reverse engenering it..
