Revenue sharing with Joomla/Mambo - code available

    Hey everyone,
I've recently created some solid code to enable revenue sharing on a Joomla/Mambo site. I did this without changing anything, just using the existing code/data structure.

It works in a similar way as this forum - 50% of impressions are given to author, if it's not the author viewing the page. Channel id can be specified as well.

Should I sell this code? It's very easy to re-use, just drop it into a template...

    Any takers?

I'd be interested in testing it out.

How much do you plan on selling it for if you do?

    thanks,

    Jon

I have no idea. I've never sold code, I've only given it away. But because of the nature of this code (making people $$), I don't think it's unreasonable to charge for it.

    What's reasonable?

So many of the components are open source for Joomla that it's hard to say. You could probably get away with selling it around $24.95 depending on the features and easy of use.

OK. I will make it into a full-blown component, and then put it up for sale.

Don't forget to start a support forum ;)

You should also check out the average price for other commercial Joomla/Mambo modules. This will give you some guidance as to the market potential.

You might have a good pitch with the module to site owners because revenue sharing creates an opportunity to enliven a site. It is a simple way for authors to derive revenue from their contributions, which should improve the content of the site and interest in what is happening.

    Good luck.
