I run a forum and it's a bit hard to tell how much $$ i receive from impressions. How much do people earn from impressions and not clicks?

Very few income is from impressions. That is because few advertisers want to pay for impressions and prefer to pay per click.

Do you think this will ever change with adsense, or no?

Adsense doesn't pay for impressions only clicks. Once you have a high traffic site you can sell spots using sites like AdBrite for some good money.

Some adsense ads are impression only, but most pay terrible, like under $0.20 per 1000. I did away with those, because I already have ValueClick for impressions and usually get above $0.50 with them.

An impression is an ad displayed to a user or guest, they don't have to click it for it to be an impression, it just has to show up in your face and impress you :D..

That's why google doesn't allow pages with adsense on it into autosurf programs, because you can get thousands, even millions of impressions with multiple autosurfs running at the same time.

And don't even try it, they'll bust you, warn you first, then kick your butt out :). If you need to use aurtosurfs, then you need a splash page (which leads to your main page) with no adsense on it.

AdSense serves both CPM and CPC ads. In advanced report you can see the stats separately. ECPM is just the effective cost per 1000 impressions - the average you have earned every 1000 impressions, from both CPC and CPM ads.

Absolutely not, eCPM as shown by Adsense is purely the effective cost per mille (1000) impressions for the impression data it has so far. If you were to get another thousand impressions but no clicks that number would halve, rather than your earnings double. You could look at it as the amount of money you will earn per 1000 impressions assuming the amount earned from the impressions you have so far is maintained.

    IE

If you get 1000 impressions with an eCPM of $5 from 10 clicks, if you add another 1000 impressions but no more clicks your eCPM would be $2.50 and you would generally earn no more money than at 1000 impressions.

Yes CPM adverts do skew these figures but since the majority of adverts on AdSense are CPC rather than CPM the skew wont be that much.
