Hi, i run a heavy traffic site and i haven't really did much SEO. I think its about time that i start on this (a very late start, i know). Background info: First time i submitted my website to SE, i submitted without the WWW. and everything was good until i submitted again and by a mistake, i added WWW. in front of it. Now, sometimes, google show my page with www. and sometimes without www. I notice that my rank dropped in google as well. But luckily, i have same PR with or without WWW. as well as with or without /index.php My Questions: -I will be adding a lot of new pages, should i add it right before google updates PRs or after? Does it even matter? *IMPORTANT* -I wont be using the same page structure. Example: currect site's url look like: http://sub.domain.com/index.php http://sub.domain.com/dir/index.php http://sub.domain.com/dir/dir/index.php new site's url look like: http://sub.domain.com/ http://sub.domain.com/page/ http://sub.domain.com/page/1/ http://sub.domain.com/page/2/ http://sub.domain.com/page-page/ Should i leave the old site running and add the new site over it? -Is there any way to clean SE's memory so it doesn't point to www.? or should i just use that mod_rewirte to redirect www. traffic to without www. and let the SE figure out on its own? -I have read about H1, etc and Meta tags. What i found out is, its good to have unique keywords and description for each page, is that true? If so, does it give me any advantage over other sites that use the same meta tag description for the whole site? Is there anything else you can suggest that may help me with this huge site update? thanks for reading, i would like some help on this so please reply. thank you.
First of all, what do you mean by heavy traffic site? How many visitors per day? Where are they coming from? In regards to URL structure it doesnt really matter as long as you are consistent. If you want do get good ranks in SE, then you need to concentrate on Title tags and content
its one of the oldest myspace resource site and gets decent amount of visitors from myspace. I use to be on top for many keywords until the MySpace market exploded and i resubmitted my site with "www." in front of it. i got content, title tags and meta tags all taken care off. i'm mostly worried about adding new URL and getting ride of the old ones. i got pr6 on index page. as i said, i have pr6 with out without www. and with of without /index.php most of the other links have pr5 and pr4. so, should i keep the old website as is and dump the new one over it?
Sign up for Google webmaster tools. They allow you to specify if you prefer the www.domain.com or domain.com version of the url.
If you have a high traffic site, I don't think you should worry about SEO or anything. Just continue doing with you have done. The reasons why we do SEO is because we WANT a heavy traffic site.
i understand, but i lost my rank in google and other SE and i would like to get them back up if possible.
