Resubmitting sitemaps

Any downside to resubmitting sitemaps? How often should they be resubmitted? I noticed that the number of indexed pages on one of my sites had dropped considerably today, and that it still has not indexed pages I've added and changes I made from about a week ago. Is there anything I can do to "help" Googlebot along?

Sitemaps may be resubmitted to google as soon as you update your contents. You can set the crawl rate to make the google bot visit your site too often but that is not advisable. Let it crawl in its own pace. Regarding the number of pages indexed, it varies from time to time. Even I noticed a sharp drop. Hope it would be back soon! ;)

Dear friend, you should not depend only on sitemap.xml. Along this you should try to get more and more back links for your site. Internal linking is another way to crawl your pages
