1. i go to hosting account A and perform a database backup using cpanel - it generated a .gz file which was downloaded to my pc 2. i then logged into hosting account B to try to restore the database backup using cpanel also. the web page refreshed and displayed "restoring backup". unfortunately, it just stopped there. after many many minutes, i gave up and checked - the database was created but no tables or records were created. the database backup is very small - the entire .gz file is only 25kb. anyone can help tell me what went wrong and what i should do?
not sure what you mean. care to elaborate? i did a backup using cpanel and tried restoring the backup using cpanel. unfortunately, it didn't work and just 'hang'ed. nor sure how phpmyadmin comes into the picture. you mean i can use phpmyadmin to restore the backup created using cpanel?
Well, you summed up by saying the database is only 25K. Thus, I made an assumption that a mysql database was what you are trying to move, not a whole account. If it's a whole account, then I'm at a loss for suggestions. But if it's just a database move, under databases at the very bottom should be a link to phpmyadmin which you can do database backup and restores with.
i guess i'm not writing coherently today... yes, i'm only doing a database move. i created the database backup using cpanel (which allows me to choose whether i want to do a full site backup or only the database backup). i tried restoring the database backup in cpanel and it didn't work. ok - i guess i can try doing the backup in phpmyadmin (didn't know that it had this feature)... thanks!
Glad to help. Holler back if you get stuck. There are many people here that can and will help if necessary.
ah... i went over to phpmyadmin to have a look - there's a limit to the number of lines in the export file (50 k)??? i have a bigger database move to perform later and this won't work. anyone know how the database move can be made using the cpanel backup feature?
if you email your host and explain phpmyadmin wont work due to the filesize they should be willing to import the database for you through the servers console... its a fairly easy process for them to do
Why dont you try hiring an expert programmer for that? If this is too critical for you, maybe a helping hand can ease up the job. There are many programmers waiting at scriptlance.com. I have had the same problem before and the guy I hired here fixed it quickly in less than 20 bucks. Let them bid on it and you'll see. Hope this helps.
Just go to cpanel create database same name suppose you had database ali on account A then create database with same name ali then go to phpmyadmin and try import Thanks, Saad
