    Hi,
I was wondering if I can move WP blogs to new domains just by transfering the database?

I have transfered hosts before so have experience with that but not to a new URL.

Yes you can my friend :) though its a big hassle and you need quite a few cups of coffee first lol..

Download the database. Copy it (at least several copies to be safe).

Open the database with notepad or with the most simplest wordpad editor.

Ctrl+F your old domain inside your sql database.

And Replace every single query of www.thedomainyouwereusing.com with www.thenewdomain.com and save the database. You can do this at one go but if its a small database try to do it manually just to be sure, I know its quite insane manually but still.

Lastly replace the old folders exactly how they were, where they were in the old domain and restore the database. With the power given to us by the ctrl+v function, you shall succeed to work the new blog work like a charm. You might have to update the permalinks and htaccess manually though, depending on your new settings. Also when restoring the database, make sure you use the phpmyadmin sql query feature :) best of luck, you need it. Lol. Ciao!

    Its not that hard.
I do this all the time for clients.
It takes only a few steps in php my-admin.
If you transfer all the files make the new database.
Pm me i will import the new database for you and sort the php-admin.

Your site will be online in 5 mins
Ile do it free for you:)

    Cool, thanks for the info.
I've done the search/replace trick before when cloning a websitebaker site so should be able to handle this.
Need to learn anyways as I will have to do it a few times.
Was hoping I wouldn't have to though!
Reps for the info and the kind offer anyways :)
