Yup New rule on Digitalpoint, making disrespectful posts regarding god is going to get you an infraction.

My post: I'll tell god - Fuck You

Infraction received: 1 point, 1 month.

Just when I thought certain mods couldn't fall any lower..

People, even atheists, have this traditional idea that religious views are exempt from criticism, ridicule or scrutiny. While it would be fine to laugh at, criticise or scrutinise someones taste in music to do the same with the theological opinions are seen as akin to mocking, criticising and scrutinising their wife or kids.

I think it's about time that we stop affording special protection to views just because they happen to be unsupported, unsubstantiated and held for no good reason.

There is also a direct correlation to how shouty and violent the religious are willing to get and how able one is to criticize it. While it's frowned upon to criticize christians, it's practically illegal to criticise islam, purely based on how likely they are to kill you.

Which is why we have to continue to say what we think regardless how much they run and hide behind people and regardless how much the people they hide behind try to stop us

I am not sure why cannot we criticize other people and their religious views without ridiculing, misbehaving and using harsh words.

I just can't say it! Sorry Helvetii but my loyalty still remains to the Noodly Appendage! I'm sorry but I just came to realize that my God has larger balls than theirs.

We can, but we shouldn't have to. The point is it isn't entitled to special treatment just because the view happens to be a religious one. We shouldn't be less able to criticise, scrutinise and ridicule it any less than we are able to any other view. Someone wouldn't get an infraction for saying "Steve Tyler is crap" to an aerosmith fan, but they would get one for saying "Mohammad is crap" to a Muslim. It gets special protection and people are sick of it.

My argument is going to be that God is whom I choose to be.

If I decide The FSM is my god, and Allah isn't, why should I be infracted for talking bad about The Allah - he's a fake god in my books anyways.

And - I could also choose not to believe in god, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

I thought this is a webmaster forum??? Religious discussions should not be allowed here at all!!! Every so called church or religion has uncountable websites, forums, blogs ... whatever. This are the places for such discussions.

The important question is should people get an infraction for insulting a fictional person?

Absolutely not. Unfortunately the religious tend to get either emotional or violent, which is partly the reason why their precious feelings are given special protection.

Aerosmith fans don't DDoS Shawn's servers when people criticize Steven Tyler -- that's what got Muslims special rights around here.

I think it was more the language over what exactily you were insulting I think if you told a fellow member to f-off I'd give you an infraction for that because it's totally uncalled for.
