Resource Zone vs Dmoz Resource zone (aka our site).

    Hello all,
I always thought that mosta was owner of old R-Z, but now someone named AWS from vb.com says he/she owns resource zone( meaning its not run by Aol or netscape or either by dmoz itself)

Source : If above does not exists anymore for any reason other alternative source.

Now few things regarding that comment which i would like to discuss with fellow dpers and those interested in dmoz and its hot topics are :

    • Does our domain dmoz-resource-zone.com in anyways violates any legal trademarks ? From what i see the term is "dmoz resource zone" but what would i know i am just another noobie on the web.
    • If R-Z is run by some individual how can they claim that its Owned and run by Dmoz.org and claim it to be official site, isn't that misleading people interested in dmoz itself, thinking that its run by dmoz and hence trying to look like dmoz owned forums? Why do they have "This site is in no way affiliated with Netscape Communications Corporation. This site is here as a service to directory users and is maintained by a group of editors." on the footer of the site than, if its not owned by aol/dmoz itself ?
    • How can AWS claim that our site is in anyway illegal and fall under any trademark infringement if so what efforts have they taken to co exists as stated by the user in his post ?
    • What are your viewpoints regarding R-Z and our new site dmoz-resouce-zone ? Aka do you think we should stop using our freedom of speech rights and terminate the forums cause someone else somewhere on thi planet also has site discussing same issues and using same magical keywords?

Looking forward towards some discussion here.

    Cheers

They (Resource-Zone.com) don't claim that it's owned and run by dmoz.org rather they state the opposite in the footer of every page of R-Z, as you yourself point out. The forum is unofficial, but run by dmoz meta-editors.

I can't comment on your other points, because I don't have a clue. Sorry.

I do have a clue. I own resource-zone.com. I own the domain and have owned it since I first bought it in 1999. I am also meta editor vbman and AWS at vbulletin.com. The editors run the site and always have.

Not to get into this in depth, I prefer to do business privately, I will ask why you haven't responded to the emails I sent through your contact form at your site? If you would have responded this could have been avoided. If you would have done your homework you would have followed procedure before using an established name as part of your domain and site name.

You can contact me by checking whois for resource-zone.com and emailing me at that address or by sending an email to bob[@]resource-zone.com to discus this further.

Sorry bob but which contact form you used, I have not got any emails since the inception of the contact form ( i am guessing http://www.dmoz-resource-zone.com/contactrz.php ?, i should probably test it out before brining it online. Anyways if you like to contact me you can use the instant messenger thingy i got in my profile or you can use sbclansite.com/contact.php << that for sure works as i get emails from users asking for links and stuff daily.

But anyways will email u asking about the email you sent me.

@annie ooh i thought always that R-Z claimed to be official dmoz forums but i am guessing dmoz got its own official internal forums.

Quick edit: @ bob aka cloaked aka aws aka vbman , just tested the contact form its working for me, but anyways sent you an email.

    Regards

You guess correctly. Dmoz does have official internal forums but they are for editors only, all postings are confidential.

Yes you were nice on the internal forums. I didn't see anyone who didn't like you, everyone seemed very nice to you as well.

Well thats life :). Bottomline:You do not do suckup to motsa you end up getting booted out of dmoz :D does not matter if other editors like you or not.

Anyways any legal adviser around here to advice on the current topic? Is it really copyright infringement ?
