Resource Abuse warning - I am on knees now

I got this warning again from Site5 about one of my site putting huge loads on server. Well, this is not first time I have got this problem, got almost 2-3 warnings, couple of times site was temporarily suspended by site5 but they brought it up back.

I am out of my wits about what to do. I am using gallery 2 script and its performance sucks (I have changed 4 hosting providers in 5 months). But I don't see good alternative and plausible migration path.

Gallery 2 is pretty much known to have server abuse history (check their forums) but I didn't read it before I started using it. My site gets around 30k hits a day and even with full caching enabled its always matter of when I will get suspension email from site5.

My previous hosting providers were worst than site5, they just shutdown the site without notice.

    Any suggestions? Alternatives?

    Thanks in advance.

Although I haven't used Gallery 2 or Site 5, I would say 30k hits should not be a problem. You need to find a reliable, resource-friendly script able to handle your content.

I would suggest working with your host provider to source and test a new script before rolling it out. As long as your host knows you realise your site's problems, and is willing to work with you on a solution, you should not have a problem.

EDIT: Heh sorry very vague, hope it is of some use though.

have you tried a dedicated sever (you can then put as much load as you want) instead of a shared one?

answer is easy. Either get a dedicated server, or find a new script.

I have been looking for new script but nothing seems to be good enough. Other problem is migrating from Gallery 2, none of the scripts has search engine friendly URLs as gallery 2.

I am halfway through programming my own simple script to create static HTML pages for images (something like JAlbum).

I have never used dedicated servers, so I will have to do some reading before going that way.

    Thanks for responses.

is it just a gallery script? If so there are several out there with mod rewritten url's and such.

I must be missing something. I have looked 4images, coppermine and they didn't appeal as much as gallery 2. I would be glad to hear from people using these scripts if they are upto it when it comes to fairly good amount of traffic.

By the way, signed up at your forum simplifiedsec...still trying to figure out what it is :)

Coppermine's pretty good and I have seen some big sites using it without issues. I have written my own SEO mod for coppermine gallery which I havn't released for public as it's a long work to document it.

Anyways, coppermine should be your best bet as I have seen it seems to have better resource management when compared to many of the other gallery scripts. Although I must say, still they havn't done the best job with resource management. Since gallery pages do not change, few compiled static html pages should've been used. I myself didn't find a good gallery script that utilizes static pages (where needed) instead of dynamic ones.
