Resolving problems with TYGO directory charges

Looking for some thoughts on how you'd resolve problems I'm having with Tygo putting over $2000 worth of charges to my credit card.

They claimed I ran up 17 months of charges at over $100 per month for advertising in their directory.

What's happened is that I was doing some directory submission in the last couple of months and submitted a site or two for a flat fee (something like $25) for listings. They've grabbed that credit card information and ran these other charges through on that card.

I called them and received a very unfriendly response. They claimed I'd submitted for monthly services and recieved them. I've got no recollection of this - I never sign up for monthly services at directories though I do frequently sign up for flat charges. Nor have I seen any referrals in my logs which would have caused me to go looking.

In fact, the person I spoke to (after I finally managed to find a phone number and actually speak to someone) was agressive - when I suggested I would have to do a chargeback they flat out told me they'd just run the charges through again. I hung up at that point as I clearly wasn't going to get anywhere with them.

I ran the chargeback through, but now the cc company is coming back to me again. I haven't seen the papers yet to see what they've got.

To complicate matters, they're running this through on a credit card I've only had recently (not 17 months, that's for sure - and I clearly never signed up for the disputed charges with that credit card; they've grabbed it when I signed up for a directory listing at a flat fee).

Now if I was trying to be reasonable I'd have thought, OK, their system mislead me and I signed up for a service I didn't want. At that point I'd have paid my one month, cancelled any services I didn't mean to sign up for, learned my lesson and carried on. That's kind of hard to do 17 months later when I haven't even been aware they were apparently accruing charges against me.

Anyone have experience in these matters and/or offer some thoughtful suggestions on how to best get out of $2000+ in bogus cc charges?

Wow. I just read the document these guys sent to Visa. I don't really know what slander and liable is (someone care to define this for me? - it may become relevant) but I gotta believe they've crossed the line. They've accused me of criminal activity, amongst other things.

They did the exact same thing to me. I didn't sign up for any reoccurring billing either. I let it go after contacting them and getting their spill about it, but it has sealed the deal that I won't ever do business with them again.

That is bad, a complaint should be filed with BBB.

Whomever you spoke to is highly naive. They really have no chance of winning this one. Charge it back. They have no way to prove you approved of this kind of billing and it will be charged back. If they tried to bill you again for it, you would just contest it again and they would likely risk losing their merchant account for such behavior.

As for honey, well contacting the BBB is a colossal waste of time. The Better Business Bureau is an extortion racket. Nothing more nothing less. They charge for inclusion and special treatment and provide no real consumer benefit. Almost nobody uses them before using purchases and services, and you would be amazed how far a business paying a membership fee goes to alleviating issues.

Anyways, back to the matter at hand... Charge it back and be done with them. Include all the information you provided here including the detail of your conversation that they would just charge you again. Make sure they block them from making any future charges on your card.

Slander is ORAL and Libel is WRITTEN.

Therefore, if they have spoken false statements about you that can cause or did cause harm to your reputation, it is slander. If they were so kind as to write them down, it is libel and this is the easiest to prove.

As to the matter at hand, call your bank asap and do a charge back. As to the BBB, that is normally a waste of time, but it never hurts. If the company is in the USA, contact the SAG's for the state they are incorporated in, the state they are headquartered in and your home state. File your BBB complaint first--to add fuel to the fire. Include all documents you can and state your case clearly with supporting evidence.
