I hear you Annie. From the 10,000, you need also to minus the number of corrupt editors that have no interest in listing others and how many are you left with? may be 5-6.
I didn't realize there were only 10,000 editors. My apoloigizes. Obviously with only 10,000 editors it should take years and years for categories to get up-dated. Please someone kill DMOZ. If it can't be managed and updated in a realistic and semi-efficient manner, what is the point of its existence. The only purpose it seems to function at this point is to foster this corruption discussions. I don't even think that every time a DMOZ editor posts a defense post about DMOZ that they could have accepted another site into the directory. Really, it never even crossed my mind. Let me get this straight too.. I am a bit tongue-in-cheek. I don't want to diminish anyone who is giving up their own free time for this project. With the status of the project such as it is though.. Why are there *ANY* editors involved in DMOZ who are not corrupt. I can at least understand why the corrupt ones are there. Why are the above-board editors there? Certainly the idealism has long ago faded for this project. Let us be honest too, it is not like it is some noble service that is providng some seriously needed service. So to those of you who are DMOZ editors and not corrupt... ARE YOU CRAZY?
I am always nice to them, they are the one who get mad because I post about laws, regulation and procedures.
Someone's got a bloaded ego over nothing... Cool off you are, just a volunteer ...no need to attack anyone... No they're just a bunch of guys that need something to feel happy about...
We do it because it's fun. I used to collect napkins when I was younger - why? because I enjoyed finding different ones to add to my collection. Now I collect paperback books (ok I really collect them because I enjoy reading them). I also collect web sites - along with a large number of other people - I enjoy reading them too (if they're interesting). I also like being able to provide people with information. For example - last Saturday, I was at a friend's for late thanksgiving dinner. Her grandson wanted to find the cheats for some car game. He was searching google and couldn't find anything. I showed him the dmoz site and within a minute we found two different sites that had cheats that he hadn't seen before.
lmcor, Please stop attempting to go off-topic. There are quite a few posts on page 12 that should be addressed, no?
By the way I call BS on not being able to find something in one of the search engines and being able to find it in DMOZ. That doesn't even make any sense. Unless you don't know how to use a search engine.
No - they've all been addressed Just because you don't like the way they've been addressed doesn't mean they "should" be addressed again.
They haven't been adressed in any way that anyone with common sense could say "oh yes, I get it now".
there aren't enuf active editors because you dmoz people don't let 'em in... i have a whole lot of expertise in a certain dmoz category that is absurdly out of date, but the two times that i applied to be an editor, i was told that the current backlog of sites to be reviewed was too large for a new editor to handle. the first of those two times that i applied to be an editor was back in the '90's, and since then the category has continued to deteriorate to the point where it looks like katrina blew thru there... a bunch of dead links and old technology that nobody uses any more... pathetic. so don't even come out here trying to drum up sympathy with some sob story about how you are overworked... dmoz earned every bit of the bad press that they are currently getting, and all the obnoxious posts that your fellow dmoz editors have been making on this forum speaks volumes about the integrity of dmoz itself. you seem like a nice enuf person, so might i suggest that you take your talents over to joeant.com... go to work for a directory that has some respect in the industry... it's not perfect, but it's a heck of a lot better than dmoz.
Please someone defend that statement. For the sake of fun and frivolity let us assume that is what Danimal was told. I actually believe that new editors aren't accepted because the backlog is too big. That would make perfect sense.
How old was the grandson? 5. It seems you have the same amount of knowledge about Internet, if you were not able to find cheats for some car game in a search engine.
What are you doing in this thread, Toots? http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=40191&page=4 Did we "drag you back in" to another DMOZ thread?
it's about as intelligent as telling us that you can find game cheats quicker on dmoz than you can on google, lol... so yeah, it does indeed make perfect sense! water seeks it's own level on dmoz.
No Minstrel, scumbags like you can't drag me into anything. Go deal with your personal issues before entering public discussions
By the way... I want to be fair.. I just went back and checked a category that I had looked at recently and been checking on and it was just updated in the last week or so and seems to have been cleaned up.
