Reseller Hosting - is it worth it?

Does anyone here use a reseller hosting account which they onsell to individual users? I am investigating using Hostgator to offer my clients web hosting accounts and have been advised that I would be the one providing support and assistance to my clients, not Hostgator.

I have enough web knowledge to get me through but I don't want the hassle of having to deal with support queries.

Who is doing this and what is your experience so far??

you would have to provide support for your clients with any reseller package, not just with hostgator - if you don't want to deal with that then going into the web hosting business is not for you.

you could however go with 3rd party support services, but that'll cost you a lot more than any reseller would - but I would advise you to think about doing something else if you don't want to deal with the "hassle"

My main motivation to getting into web hosting is to provide a service to my existing clients. As a long term venture I can also see the potential to grow this into a side business to generate additional revenue. The "hassle" would come into it if I had hundreds of people emailing me support questions which I wouldn't have the time to handle.

Perhaps I can investigate a third party support service if and when things go that far.

Estimating 100s of support emails is a huge leap...and do the research on third party support services - but I can tell you that web hosting companies don't grow as fast as you think these days.

    Good luck with the thing.

Reseller hosting is great when you first start out in the web hosting business. Once you believe your customer base has grown to a point where a reseller account just doesn't suffice anymore, you should then purchase a VPS or dedicated server.
