    Hey guys,

I am really new to making sites and I was just wondering what kind of research you should do before making a site or to help make my original site better.

I think I have a pretty fresh idea and I just want to be able to get my site out thier the most and target the most key words, but I have no clue where to even start.

    Any advice would be lovely.

    Thanks everyone.

Hi James, you're not very specific - but the first thing I do is go to clickbank and see if simular sites are doing well. I take a look at the top sellers and see what ideas can motivate me...I'm assuming you are creating a site with a product for sale? Also, I set up a mock adwords campaign to see how much daily traffic I can get and how much it will cost me.

    Hope that helps :)

Thanks, no it isn't a product I am selling, it is more of a "social" site. I don't wanna say the idea for personal reasons but it is a basic website..I also think it is quite unique, so far I haven't been able to find another site like it.
P.S. I dont mean scocial as in facebook haha

    Porn eh? lol...

I do a range of things from competition and keyword research to research on who is paying for what key terms in adwords.

If the demographic is huge you need to dig up some long tail key phrases to start with at first or you will likely stay buried for quite some time.

    hope that helps,
    Nigel

If your site is social site, then you can get lot more relevant opinion from related niche blog by buying paid blog post to collect opinion.

    Friend,

Since you did not mention that what website you have or want to develop, I think that the first thing you should do is find the targeted audience or genre to whom you will be targeting your site to.

For example a visitor looking for a specific search term or keyword like mobile phones is more likely to stay on your website if they find all the information they are looking for. In this case your niche is mobile phones and your targeted visitors are mobile phone users.

Secondly, you can try using a feedback form and make it accessible on each and every page. Use can use a ajax based feedback form and then analyze the feedback form the visitors.

    Hope that helps you friend.

Do your best to see if there is interest in a website that is vaguely similar, especially if it's a new idea.

If you have a specific auidience you want to target, make sure they are present on the web by surfing around for groups, forums etc.

Best of luck to you James

i know my targeted audience now, and I didn't even thnk of that before even though it is such a huge thing to your market/niche. I don't have the money to get a team of SEO experts, but I will just have to do as much research as I can.
    thanks for the support everyone
