Hi Folks, I was wondering how the different TLDs are considered when selling domain names? For eg, I have the following preference. com > net > org > info> US >>> What is your preferrence in TLDs when buying domains ? Regards, Tuning
For me (including .co.uk as that is where I am): .com .co.uk .net .org .biz .info I'd probably even prefer .cc, .tv, .fm, .to or another of the other national TLDs that have been hijacked for global purposes than a .info.
Thanks for the reply norfstar, I asked this question to find some solution to my problem. Here is my problem. I just discovered a keyphrase (two word) that has over 75K searches per day in overture. And also it has adsense ads for the same term. To be icing over cake, the competetion is very less. The problem is currently the US & info are only availalble. So I 'm confused, which I should choose. Also its that this term is a product. So I may start a shop selling it. All together I'm confused. Can anyone shed some light here ? Best Regards, Tuning
Personally I'd go for the .us, but from what I've noticed in other peoples domain name registration tendencies, .info seems to be more popular.
Personally I would try and grab a different variation of the name in .com. Unless you are mainly going to focus on search engine traffic, than the .us or the .info would be alright. I would also pick the .us over the .info, the shorter the better imho. Although I guess that works best if you are mainly targeting Americans. btw I think you should share the keywords with me hehe
You should buy both and redirect to the .info If there isn't a lot of competition and you plan on getting all your traffic from searchers, the domain will be a VERY small part of the success or failure. Without knowing the keywords its hard to give the most accurate advice but the suggestion to try for a .com was a good one. I always shy away from .us as the main domain just due to perception. Just because you are #1 in the SERPs, doesn't ensure you will get the most clicks. Title AND domain extension can paly a part.
Thanks yfs1, The case is that its a product and you can write about it and sell it. Thus the information can be on info and store can be on US. Anyway I'm gonna try SEOing it and will watch what happens. I'm sure I will get the invested money from adsense atleast. Best Regards, Tuning
com de net-co.uk info-org biz-us-at-ch There is no standard valuation but roughly market is like this. Machinenbau.info was sold for mid 4 figures while maschinenbau.org was mid 3.. bes.biz was sold for 7000+ while rrp.com waas sold for 3000+ You never know. New tlds still suck in type in traffic.. Some people looking for traffic domains say " only com" as if after having traffic com brings some extra value.. porker.com was sold for 6 figures. Not even a real word.
Thanks real! But I didn't get how .de is better than .net and .co.uk AFAIK, most people will try .net after trying .com. They wont go for .de anyway. Regards, Tuning
We are not talking about what is better. Biz is better than com (in meaning) but not comparable to com in value due to marketing differences. De has highest number of regs (7-8 million) after com, and highest priced sales.. chat.de was sold for half million.
I think the dot us extention is ideal for genealogists researching particular surnames in the US. By the time this dawned on me the surnames I wanted were gone. Shannon
