Requesting Permission

I'm hereby requesting permission from the DP staff to report anyone selling unlimited space and bandwidth. I'd like to report any of those scams people get attracted to. Overselling is okay, but only to an extent. Unlimited Disk Space does NOT exist. Stop saying it does, it never will. Space always has to fill something, and hard drives are not free. Bandwidth can be unlimited, but is considered "unmetered." Unmetered bandwidth is on a line which has not been capped at a limit, and is expensive, not cheap. You cannot offer a 100mbps unmetered connection at $5!

I'd like to get everyone's personal opinion on this. Who else would like to stop scams and prevent people from offering "unlimited" packages? Feel free to post your opinions or objections to this.

I would agree, it just leads people to buy hosting from people who guarantee like 100gb of space 1tb of bw for like .99 a month. I mean come on that is bad, but when you then offer unlimited it just isn't possible. If anything they are lying left and right to say it. You could always give them an infraction too.

I agree with you. Why would anyone want to do business with someone who starts out being dishonest right from the beginning? If anyone offers unlimited space and bandwidth they are certainly being dishonest and promising something that cannot exist. -- Nothing in this world is unlimited - not even the air or the stars and certainly not disk space and bandwidth!

Heh, unlimited AND no file-size limit. I'll admit, there are one or two hosts out there that can handle unlimited loads, like T35 and HostUltra, but they have very strict rules on their files. They put up a filesize limiter and filetype limiter.

Perhaps you should spend your time going after the scammers, rather than the concept of unlimited. Many reputable companies are now advertising unlimited in some of their hosting. You can't immediately assume that anyone offering unlimited is a bad person, you shouldn't need to prevent people from offering unlimited as some forums have done, they have found their membership declining. Personally I have been ripped of by 3-4 DP members with unlimited space. Several server companies are now selling servers with completely upgradeable hot swappable harddrives to allow "unlimited". Spend the time and energy going after the fact that even when these people ripoff other DP members, they are allowed to remain, or comeback after a short period of time.

Unlimited is not real though, and everyone who is smart, or at least past the 5th grade knows that. But, 99% of the companies who offer unlimited here I've researched to be scammers.

Are they scammers? Or have they got so many accounts sold, or so much resouces used that they didn't afford to keep it up and and shut down?

There is a huge different on that and a scammer! Someone getting .99 monthly per account for unlimited space and bandwidth can't really be considered as a scammer! Can he? No, because he thinks that he can sell unlimied resources, most likely because he has some unlimited account with someone else! But that doesn't make him a scammer does it?

You can consider it unlimited, as we drink the water and it goes back into the air and rain down again!

So basicly, it's not "unlimited" water! But it's impossible to use up all the water if you know what i mean :p

Well, for us here at DP, and what people look at a scammer as is someone who spesificly go for your Money to take them without delivering what they sold!

And alot of these companies, or well! You can't actually call them companies, but alot of these persons who sell unlimited don't always aim for your money! But they are so damn stupid that they actually belive that unlimited exist, and most likely they got an unlimited reseller from some scammer :p

NOTHING is unlimited - that would be against all laws of physics and known science as well as the rules of economics.

Yes, there may be a lot of some thing, but no thing in the world is unlimited.

Anyone who thinks that there is anything that is unlimited does not understand what unlimited means

In fact we are using up the trees as well as the clean water at a much faster rate than it can be replenished. Just one daily newspaper can use several acres of trees each and every day, for example.

EDIT-- Question - What would happen to my unlimited disk space unlimited bandwidth hosting account if I had 10,000 different files that were 1 to 2 gigs each in size and I had several thousand people downloading those files?

Okay, you seem a lot smarter than the other people who sell "unlimited." But, I'm staying with my point, unlimited does not and can not exist, most certainly in terms of disk space. How about this then, we start a sticky that states every "company" that offers unlimited and sort them into good and bad?
