Is it really that big of a deal? I think people are being just a bit too sensitive about this "reputation" thing. Some one (thanks a lot minstrel...hehe) accidentally gave me a neg vote because they were laughing so hard at my post that they chose the wrong button. Who cares though? You have to get quite a few negative votes from unique people in order for it to change you over to the red side. This isn't a popularity contest....But if it WAS...New Computer is in 1st, Foxy is 2nd, SEBasic is 3rd, Kalina is 4th, Digitalpoint is 5th and now I'm all the way down to 6th. Boohoo. :p

How about only being able to ADD reputation to someone, not take it away. ... hmm but that probably wouln't work. People often complain if the food is cold/undercooked/not what they ordered, but don't say anything if its just perfect.

Well, if you only did things that were popular with everyone, that would just be boring, now wouldn't it? :D

The only problem I have with the Rep system, Is the fact that I have to vote on 50 other people before I can vote on the same person again.

If that could be lowered to 25 or something, It might be a little easier to give out rep.

I often see posts I like, but because I voted that person a while ago I can't give any rep...

There aren't loads of people that I give rep to (Not because of the people themselves, but mostly because it tends to be the same bunch of people that make good posts).

I think that would be alright, just making it easier to hand out good rep, rather than bad. It'd make the place happier... lol.

You're darn right- now its your turn to irritate a bunch of people, Summer! ;)

My thoughts as well so IMO it's fine to give negative votes and it's even more fun to argue about (I appreciated Resale Broker PMing me about it; something which wouldn't have been possible if I didn't provided my name with the vote). But after a discussion it should be settled and life should go on.

The other day i got a negative rep vote(my first one) ... it was very irritating to say the least ... but after a day or so I got over it because ... Even though reputation is important in someways ... at the end of the I'm here to, firstly and most importantly ... LEARN ... and of course help others where I can.

That was a bit harsh. Maybe if you ask Shawn he will change it. It's not really a fair comment!!

If someone holds an ongoing grudge against you or simply is a shallow minded individual who will punish one for even a joke post, then there is nothing you can do about that.

Until Shawn (or someone else who knows the forum and the posters) reviews the reputation report and comments in relation to the post that was reported and approves or declines the rep. points the system will remain flawed.

It is really as simple as that, a computer program can not see a pattern of abuse, it will take someone human to detect undue ill will against members here. :)

The only way to reduce these crimes is by introducing deterrants and that is not what Shawn is all about so looks like we'll just have to put up with whatever comments people make about us. It's not like it's the end of the world! :)

Weirfire, no one knows what Shawn is all about, some members think they do, but really don't have any idea what he will do or say, or what he really thinks of any of us.

But we will all find out what he will do, when he does it.

The best that we can do is post our opinions and let Shawn be Shawn and try not to speak for him.

I reckon he's like some sort of hero. He doesn't really let us get to know him so he stays annonymus even though we can feel his presence. ;)

I think the rep system works fine. Some of the tweaks Shawn has put in place(loss of live link/signature permissions for example) make it one of the best implementations I've ever seen.

You still have to feel bad for those people that have received negative reputation points for no reason.
