Ok when would I red rep someone?

    1. When the advice given by them is rubbish, but AFTER I and others have given them the opportunity to correct their statements and /or learn. There is no point in red repping for giving bad advice as it is difficult to know which is which when your first starting out. And the whole point of a forum like this is to learn. Sometimes though somepeople insist they are right when everyone who knows they are wrong are telling them. Normally they then fall into one of the categories below.

    2. When they are bullying or ridiculing another member unjustifiably. There is absolutely no excuse to ridicule another. It is easy to make people look stupid, but humility is a wonderful thing. . Everyone has to learn sometime and helping them learn is far more satisfying than kickihng them when they make a mistake or say something dumb along the way.

    3. When they are being generally obnoxious for the sake of it (Trolling).

In all cases, good or bad, I give reasons for leaving rep. After all there is no point in scolding or praising someone if they do not know what it is for.

    Nice SOH :D

Hey its 4:30 in the afternoon here glug glug.

Sadly though I only drink on a weekend, never when I am working or will be working the following day. Being a bear of very little brain, I need maximum clarity to walk and talk at the same time ;)

This is so weird, I got more bad rep and then it vanished, does this mean I'm invincible now !!!! I got this sexy photo "my daughter" and made it my Avatar just to get that mature thing going.

No one will mess with me now!!!! :D

If you get red rep and it disappears it usually means you got it on a post that was later deleted...It still counts though

Im sure there are other reasons

I think he ended up getting banned...Whats funny is Latehorn, despite still being a moron, put more time into his posts and went from double red to green.

    Just goes to show

I dislike him but he stays in Politics and Religion these days which is fine with me so he won't be getting any red from me.

He used to add his moronic one word comments to the Webmaster section of the forum which earned him 2 reds.

What I'd like to see is a required message for red rep. In ym experience when someone gives me green they tell me why. I've gotten about 5 reds (well maybe a few more than that  ) and only one person told me why.

Regarding the PM me posts, I think it's a lazy way of subscribing to the thread. I see it here and at Sitepoint all the time and it seems to be part of internet pop culture or something.

And I have bought sites after posting PM me please (gotta ad please to get up to 10 characters). If the seller requests to be pmed, then I do that. When it comes time to leave itrader it's always a pain because I'm not subscribed to the thread...

Surely if you have sent a Pm then the easiest and logical thing to post would be
Pm Sent, posting to subscribe to thread. That way you get your subscription, and others know what is going on, and you have prevented the Red.

Or you just click the "Thread Tools" pull down menu at the top and click "Subscribe to this thread" and subscribe manually.

These are both fine alternatives, but ask people to make an extra click and not everyone wants to do it.

As for preventing red, both PM sent and Pm me clutter up sales threads and might bother someone. I think Moe has the safest solution but also the least likely because it's the most work.

How is two clicks with your mouse more work than typing "pm me please"?

Well I haven't timed it or anything but I imagine it takes longer to send a PM and subscribe to a thread than it does to post PM me. I imagine that people will continue doing it until the reds come more consistently. If someone does it 100 times and gets 1 red, they might not be too worried. If they got a red every time, they would have to stop.
