Well people who do business transactions do care. If there's a red blob in my rep thing..do you think they'd trust me to do business with them?

And I do hang out quite a lot in the services forum.

I would like to correct a little mistake in the small reputation faq.

That bold word should be red I believe.

Thats a grey "blob" which means that either 1) You were given a rep in the General Section or Introduction section of DP or 2) The person who wanted to rep you had less than 10 points

I have a question about negative reps.

If you have a ton of reps and you negative rep a newbie, I know the newbie will lose more than - 1 rep point (its say they loose - 10 reps). So does that mean you lose - 10 rep of yours as well? Or just 1? How is it weighted? Thanks :)

Max negative rep you can give is 5. But I don't know how much it will take from you. Probably still only 1.

Set, you are correct the cost of giving negative rep is to loose one rep point yourself.

This rep stuff, I have a number of forums and it is one function that I don't provide. Now I have to laugh as I only came across it now that I received a negative rep for providing a link to another thread I had started where I had grumbled about Adsense

my point is, I had no idea about not being allowed to link to any previous threads you had started (i dont do the shared Adsense revenue thingy) and my reason for the link was to do with reference

any good site builder or supplier of information would always provide a reference, so that people can have an idea what the person is talking about etc

so instead of simply giving someone a bad rep, how about considering the sending of a PM to discuss things in a slightly more mature manner, thus letting the individual know without creating animosity

    thanks and all

I don't think its a forum rule not to mention your thread links, or else you would have got an infraction.

Some people here with filthy rich green reps just make life hell for newbies for things that irritate them. And for some snobbish reason, they get irritated pretty fast...the worse point is they have nothing to lose when doling out red rep while the newbie has everything to lose. Sometimes I think, this system is just unfair, especially for newbies.

You lose 1 rep point for giving red rep, so there is something to lose.

If your thread was something like:

    "Hey check out this thread:

    Then what did you expect?

nope it went something like this:

OK after the month's complaints about Adsense

    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=229012

I am happy to say that there is every possibility that I may just get back to the earnings I was expecting after starting off quite well.

    -------------------------

I received bad rep for that link

as mentioned, I am not too concerned about this rep thing however it can have an unnecessary negative impact on users

now if it was some unwritten policy that one shouldn't have done something as that link, then a simple PM would have helped or a tip about such things in the thread

    :)

Of course I'm aware of that, lol. What I meant is....and honestly you know it too...you would lose just 1 rep point when giving out red, but that newbie would lose 5 rep points (since you're so powerful!) when he's just starting his rep points journey. Its like doling out harsh punishments to a baby :p

And you have so many rep points it would make much of a difference, while for a newbie every rep point counts....

Now you understand what I mean?
