I think that the algo in there is good enough to detect spam (not sure though). Not sure either whether there should or could be any real regulations regarding that.
There is the one spam item over me, but nvm ;-) I've got some ideas, and goin' to update my listing so You may start to worry
I still think we need to clarify which query we are using. If you go to http://base.google.com/base/ and then type Digitalpoint Member, this is what you get: http://base.google.com/base/search?q=digitalpoint+member&authorid=&hl=en The other query that you are using is based on a 'Label' called Digitalpoint Member like this: http://base.google.com/base/search?...3=digitalpoint+member&a_y323=0&a_s323=0&a_r=1 I just seems that this should be based on a normal search for 'Digitalpoint member' not the Label 'Digitalpoint member' Or maybe I'm missing something?
Yup, and if you want the black hat method you can report those with two listings under the "duplicate" reason which isn't allowed according to the base TOS Just a little tip
So when a member can submit several profiles, what determines whether one is duplicate or not when one features a url to DP and the other on your home page?
No, it's da second one!! http://base.google.com/base/search?...3=digitalpoint+member&a_y323=0&a_s323=0&a_r=1 Wacko makes da rules!!! For some crazy reason, wacko became 'some honorable person'!! How he did it, he'll never know!!
I hope not. :| [hint] And these rules blow... It should be anything goes - no one has a competitive advantage, so sod it - no holes barred... Not being funny, but last time ninno ran a contest it fell over pretty bad... Let's not do that again huh...
I am actually all for turning this into a serious contest but I am curious about one thing (and I bet others are judging by their posts) What could be the commercial benefit of using and ranking well on base.google.com ... Until this thread I had never even heard of it. If someone can sum up the major points and why figuring out ranking methods (past keyword stuffing) can help us, I will stick with this thread. The one thing that has attracted me so far is the fact that you can do an edit and see instant results. Something SEO's have always dreamed about in the SERPs. One major flaw is that the term "digitalpoint" is considered a mispelling which limits its use. If there are benefits to giving this contest a try (past the prizes) that may need to be rethought. Just my thoughts
Goolge Base is going to be an interactive blog or rather personal profile base where members search for likeminded people. Yeah, I bet there is a lot of commercial benefit in this down the line.
Why bother market base as that when Google already have Orkut - Which is a far better tool for social networking. I don't really know where the benefit of this will be until it actually starts getting some traffic from genuine web users - until then, it's just a playground.
http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=473262&postcount=71 New rule: There must end up being 10,000 posts in da thread by da end of da year 4 there 2 b a winner. That's a penny per post!!!
That doesn't really explain the commercial benefit. I don't agree that it helps figure out the Algo for regular rankings as there are nearly no similarities. I'll ignore that
